ALEX PADMORE’S THIRD TITLE IS A “WILD” ONE

Wantagh, NY:  Alex Padmore, a left-handed bowler from Jamaica, NY, won his third LIGBT title and the $1,000 top prize at AMF Wantagh on Sunday. Alex, who didn’t make the finals in either squad, but was the “wildcard” entry in the finals with a 1399 six-game block, rolled a 259 to defeat second place finisher Bobby Wunsch, E. Meadow, NY by 4 pins. Bobby earned $500 while third place finisher George Williams, Jamaica, NY finished third with a 227 worth $300.

The 3 person shootout was a very close match as all three competitors were within 4 pins late in the competition. Alex through a double in the 6th & 7th and 9th & 10th frames to secure his victory. Bobby started the match with a 4 timer and finished with a triple but fell 4 pins short. George had a triple in the middle of the match to stay close but an open in the 9th frame was his demise.

The AMF Wantagh tournament drew a great crowd of 119 entries, advanced 21 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $4,100. Kegel’s 40 foot Abbey Road pattern was used resulting in moderate scoring; the cut was 732 in the 1pm squad and 700 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by Bobby Wunsch with a 787 series in the 1pm squad.

LIGBT’s next tournament is at AMF East Meadow on Sunday, January 25th. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500. One in 6 each squad advances to the finals and will cash for a minimum of $60.
