New Hyde Park, NY:  Hector Diaz Jr., a 37 year old IT Director from the Bronx, NY won his second LIGBT tournament at Herrill Lanes on Sunday.  Hector defeated his good friend Dwayne Redman, a toll collector also from the Bronx, 241-220 to win the $1,000 top prize. While Dwayne took home $600, third place went to NYC policeman Mike Simeone, Wantagh, NY with a 171 worth $400. Rounding out the final 4 was soon to be married Andrew Mienkiewicz, Massapequa, NY, with a 169 earning him $300.

The final shootout was a good one since there was only a 12 pin handicap difference among the 4 bowlers. Hector started the match with a double and never looked back. He continued to mark while the other 3 bowlers had several opens. Dwayne had a chance to make it close at the end but a muscle cramp in his arm severely limited his ability to throw the ball. With only one open Hector breezed to victory.

The Herrill Lanes tournament drew a great summer crowd of 130 entries, advanced 23 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $5,100. The tournament pattern was “Beijing” (35 feet) resulting in some of the lowest cut scores of the year: 669 at 1pm and 673 at 3pm. High series of the tournament was shot by David Chu, New York, NY with a 774  in the 3pm squad. Eddie Eng was the wildcard winner with a six game block of 1341.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a house shot event at Levittown Lanes on Sunday, July 24th. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000-1st, $500-2nd, $300-3rd, & $250-4th.
