CHRIS RUSSO & ZACHARY SOLOMON ULTIMATE DOUBLES CHAMPIONS AT AMF WANTAGH

Wantagh, NY: The LIGBT ran its popular Ultimate Handicap Doubles tournament at AMF Wantagh and crowned two brand new champions. After 4-games of qualifying the top of the prize list was the team of Chris Russo, New York, NY and Zachary Solomon, Long Island City, NY earning the $2,000 top prize. Chris and Zachary finished with a 1,949 four-game total earning their first LIGBT titles.

Finishing in 2nd place, 37 pins behind, was the team of Chris Russo and Tony Correnti, W. Islip, NY shooting a 1,912 worth $1,000. In third place was the team of Ray Tang, College Point, NY and Michael Yu, Brooklyn, NY with a 1,909 series worth $600. Rounding out the top 4 was the team of Marvin Silva, Franklin Square, NY and Frank Corallo, Blackwood, NJ with an 1,894 total worth $500.

The doubles event drew a wonderful field of 96 teams with 16 teams cashing in the $7,850 prize fund. The side action paid out an additional $6,205 bringing the total day’s payout to $14,055 The LIGBT welcomed 21 new members at AMF Wantagh. The cut score to cash on the house shot pattern was 1,844.

The LIGBT’s next event is Sport Shot Series #8 at AMF Garden City on Friday, May 10th (8pm.) The LIGBT is sponsored by Randi B. Siegel Law Offices and Turbo Grips with all final shootouts streamed on WON Television Network.

JUAN TORRES WINS HANDICAP TITLE JONATHAN SALOMAN TAKES SCRATCH TITLE

Levittown, NY: The LIGBT ran its House Shot Series #7 at Levittown Lanes on Sunday and crowned 2 first time champions. The handicap champion, earning his first title and the $1,000 top prize, was Juan Torres, Brooklyn, NY and the scratch champion, winning his first title and the $500 top prize, was Jonathan Saloman, Seaford, NY.

The handicap shootout was exciting with everyone throwing strikes and filling frames. Juan came out strong striking in his first 5 out of 6 frames. Carmine Solomita, Port Washington, NY, threw 6 strikes in a row, after opening in the third frame, to come within 4 pins of Juan in the 8th frame. After Juan spared in the 10th Carmine needed to strike to win the championship but a stubborn 4 pin stopped him from winning his first title. The final score was 274-271 with Carmine earning $500 for 2nd place. Stephanie Pidala, Maspeth, NY finished in third place shooting a 269 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Karen Carpinelli, Bayshore, NY with a 241 worth $250.

The scratch event was won by Jonthan Saloman with a 4-game total of 1091; an amazing 272 average earning him $500. Finishing in 2nd place, was Weldon Drayton Jr., Brentwood, NY shooting a 992 series worth $250. Rounding out the top 3 in the scratch event was Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY with a 955 earning him $150. The scratch event drew 20 entries and paid out a 5-person prize list totaling $1,140.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #7 drew a field of 73 entries, paid out $4,535 in prize money, and had 19 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $2,265 bringing the total day’s payout to $6,800. Scores to cash were 956 in the 49 & under handicap division, 959 in the senior handicap division, and 919 in the scratch event. Karen Carpinelli and Jonathan Saloman shot 300 games.

AL GREEN WINS 1ST SPORT SHOT TITLE

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF E. Meadow and ran its 7th Sport Shot Series event of Season 16. Al Green, Westbury, NY, a right-handed senior bowler who joined the LIGBT in 2013, won his first LIGBT title by defeating 7-time champion Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY 289-283. Al earned $1,000 while Joe earned $600 for second place. Finishing in third was Joe Hoenig, Levittown, NY shooting a 225 and earning $400. Rounding out the top 4 was Donna Ryan, Smithtown, NY with a 206 worth $300.

The final shootout wound up being a 2-person match between Al and Joe LaBargo. Joe was giving Al 50 pins in handicap but that huge deficit was cut to 6-pins by the 8th frame with Joe throwing 7 strikes in his first 8 frames. Al was not intimidated by Joe and threw 3-strikes in a row in his last 3 frames to hold back Joe’s incredible charge. Donna and Joe Hoenig had their own fight for 2nd place with Joe coming out on top when Donna opened in her last 2 out of 3 frames.  

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a wonderful crowd of 130 entries, paid out $6,275 in prize money, and had 33 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $6,215 bringing the total event payout to $12,490.  

Scores to cash on the 35 foot “PBA Cheetah” pattern were 658 at 1pm and 668 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Isaiah Zamor with a 1,352. High series of the day was shot by our champion Al Green with an 808 in the 2nd squad.

JOSE PEREZ IS EASTER HOUSE SHOT SPECTACULAR CHAMPION!

Deer Park, NY: The LIGBT visited Strike 10 Deer Park for its 2nd House Shot Spectacular. What was really spectacular was Jose Perez’s performance in the final shootout. Jose, who resides in E. Elmhurst, NY dominated the final shootout by defeating 2nd place finisher Shawn Cummings, Middle Village, NY 278 (scratch)-243 (handicap.) Jose’s 28 pin victory earned him the $1,500 top prize while Shawn took home $800.

The 5-person final shootout was an exciting competition. Jose, the winner of the scratch division was giving everyone handicap. But that didn’t bother him as he struck in 9 out of his 10 frames. Finishing in 3rd place was Anthony Brown, Dix Hills, NY with a 241 worth $500. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Noel Dilbert, Huntington St., NY with a 230 worth $350 and 5th was taken by Jose Torres, Brooklyn, NY with a 191 worth $300.

The LIGBT House Shot Spectacular held over Easter weekend drew 176 entries generating an $8,320 prize fund. Strike 10 Deer Park and Coaches Corner added $1,000 to the prize fund. A total of 45 bowlers went to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $3,790 bringing the total event payout to $12,110. Angel Villavicencio, Whitestone, NY won the bowling ball raffle.

Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 648-713. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 689 to 727. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 693-731. There were 2 perfect games bowled; Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY and James Manganaro, Deer Park, NY. The wildcard winners were Jimmy Walsh, Glen Cove, NY (1,410), Ken Bruce, Oceanside, NY (1,420), Stacey Pflug, W. Babylon, NY, (1,391) and Stephanie Pidala, Maspeth, NY (1,398.)
