Champion Glenn Simpson

December 11, 2011

Wantagh, NY: Glenn Simpson, 63 years young from Medford, NY, won his second LIGBT title and this season. Glenn, who already had won the East Islip event in October, took his second LIGBT trophy and the $500 top prize by the slimmest of margins. He defeated second place finisher Jae Yi ($300), Flushing, NY by one pin and third place finisher Julio Arnold, Woodside, ($250) NY by 4 pins. The scores in the final shootout were 244-243-240 which was the closest final match in LIGBT history.

The tournament used Kegel’s “Dead Man Curve” pattern and scoring was on the low side. Glenn was seeded directly into the shootout by leading the first squad with a 728 series. Jae Yi lead the 3pm squad with a 765 which earned him one bye. Julio, who was trying to win his second straight tournament, qualified in the first squad with a 696.

The shootout was exciting as the lead changed almost every frame. Glenn won the title sitting on the bench as Jae Yi needed a double in the 10th but could only throw the first strike. Julio struck out in the tenth to force the other two finalists to stay clean.

The Wantagh event attracted a great crowd of 87 entries and paid over $3,000 in prize money to 20 cashers. The next LIGBT event is Sunday, December 18th at AMF Babylon. This tournament will actually be two events; The Tournament of Champions and a Non-Champions event. The two tournaments will feature guaranteed prizes of $1,000 & $500. The TOC begins at noon while the non-champions event squad times are 1pm and 3pm with walk-ins welcomed. For complete results of the AMF Wantagh event please visit www.ligbtour.com.
