ARCHIE NABAS WINS HIS 6TH LIGBT TITLE

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF Garden City and ran its sixth sport shot series event of Season 16. Archie Nabas, Queens Village, NY won his 6th LIGBT title by defeating Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY 238-234. Archie earned $1,000 while Joe took home $700 for second place. Finishing in third was Gary Paulsen, Massapequa, NY shooting a 217 and earning $500. Rounding out the top 4 was 4th place finisher Joe Scianna, Ronkonkoma, NY with a 192 worth $300.

The shootout was competitive on the “Broadway” pattern with the first open frame occurring in the 4th frame. Archie started strong with the first 5 out of 6 strikes and was cruising to victory until he had 2 consecutive opens in frames 8 & 9. Joe LaBargo was filling frames but trailed Archie by 45 pins in the 7th frame. Joe’s 4 late strikes made the final score close but he had to settle for 2nd place. Gary struggled the entire match but his large handicap kept him close. Joe Scianna, who gets no handicap, couldn’t string strikes until he changed his line in the 10th frame where he struck out. 

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew an unbelievable crowd of 151 entries, paid out $7,365 in prize money, and had 40 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $8,920 bringing the total event payout to $16,285.  A record for an LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament.

Scores to cash on the 37 foot “Broadway” pattern were 684 at 1pm and 689 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Nick Falsetta, N. Babylon, NY with a 1,398. The women guarantee added Karen Carpinelli, Bayshore, NY to the finals with a 706. High series of the day was shot by Gary Paulsen with a 789 in the 1st squad.

DIAMOND BARRIENTOS WINS HANDICAP TITLE DONNA RYAN TAKES SCRATCH TITLE

Levittown, NY: The LIGBT ran its House Shot Series #6 at Levittown Lanes on Sunday and crowned 2 great champions. The handicap champion, earning her first title, was Diamond Barrientos, Bronx, NY and the scratch champion, winning her second scratch title, was Donna Ryan, Smithtown, NY. This is the first time in LIGBT history both champions were women. Even more amazing another woman came in 2nd place in the handicap shootout; Stephanie Pidala, Maspeth, NY. WOMEN RULED AT LEVITTOWN!

Diamond, bowling in her first LIGBT event, earned the $1,000 top prize in the handicap shootout in dominating fashion. Diamond shot a 271 game, 42 pins higher than 2nd place finisher Stephanie Pidala who shot 229 and earned $600. Finishing in third place with a 227 was 76-year-old Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY earning $400. Rounding out the top 4 in the handicap shootout was Dwight Dunkley, Brooklyn, NY with a 205 worth $300

The scratch event was won by Donna Ryan with a 4-game total of 922 worth $525. Finishing in 2nd place, just 10 pins behind with a 912, was first-time-bowler Justin Lee, E. Setauket, NY earning $300. Rounding out the top 3 in the scratch event was Don Pendleton, Staten Island, NY with a 902 earning him $200. The scratch event drew 25 entries and paid out a 6-person prize list totaling $1,475.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #6 drew a field of 126 entries, paid out $7,545 in prize money, and had 33 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $5,530 bringing the total day’s payout to $13,075. Scores to cash were 930 in the 49 & under handicap division, 945 in the senior handicap division, and 881 in the scratch event.

SEAN TEAHAN’S 14 YEAR WAIT IS OVER! WINS E. MEADOW HOUSE SHOT SPECIAL EVENT

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF E. Meadow and ran a special 2-squad house shot event. Sean Teahan, Islip, NY won his first LIGBT title since joining the LIGBT in 2010 by defeating Charlie Fucci, Central Islip, NY 264-228. Sean earned $1,000 while Charlie earned $600 for second place. Finishing in third place was Phil Jankowitz, Plainview, NY shooting a 217 and earning $400. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Jason Epps, Jamaica, NY with a 213 worth $350 and 5th place finisher Angel Villavencio, Whitestone, NY with a 201 worth $300.

The final shootout was a great match as 4 of the 5 bowlers were looking for their first LIGBT title. Sean bowled like a champion the entire game as he was the only final shootout bowler to throw a clean game. Sean took the early lead with a double in frames 3 & 4 and locked up the title by throwing 5 strikes in his 6 last frames. By the end of the match the battle was for 2nd place with Charlie finishing with 5 strikes in a row to go from 4th to 2nd place. Phil bowled well but when he missed a 1-pin spare in the 10th frame he had to settle for 3rd place. Jason threw plenty of strikes but 2 splits cost him a chance at the title. Angel, who is 79-years young, seemed tired and managed only 1 strike to finish in 5th place. 

The LIGBT 2-squad house shot tournament drew a crowd of 116 entries, paid out $5,725 in prize money, and had 29 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $4,545 bringing the total event payout to $10,270.  

Scores to cash on the house shot pattern were 706 at 1pm and 689 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Don Boncoeur, St. Albans, NY with a 1,422. High series of the day was shot by 2nd place finisher Charlie Fucci with a 764 in the 1pm squad. Leon Kessee, Hempstead, NY shot the only perfect game of the tournament in the 1pm squad.
