FERMIN DIAZ WINS NEW YEAR’S DAY MARATHON

W. Babylon, NY: Fermin Diaz, New York, NY celebrated the New Year by winning the LIGBT Marathon at AMF Babylon. Fermin shot a 1304 5-game handicap series to win the $1,000 top prize and the champion’s trophy. Finishing second was Anne Quarry, Holtsville, NY with a 1295 series earning her $600. Rounding out the top 3 was Ed Eng, Flushing, NY earning $350 with a 1280 handicap series.

Due to the great crowd 30 different bowlers (1 in 4) cashed in $6,000 prize fund. Scoring for the day was on the moderate side as a modified house shot, 40 feet in length, was put down. To cash in the event it took an 1190 handicap series for 5 games.

The New Year’s Day Marathon drew an incredible crowd of 121 bowlers. There were many Brunswick ball winners as 5 balls were raffled off during the event. In addition to the prize fund more than $10,000 in side action was created.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a 2-squad handicap event at South Levittown Lanes (squad times 1pm & 3pm) Sunday, January 5th. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500. One in 6 each squad advances to the finals and will cash for a minimum of $50. All prepaid entries are only $45 each ($50 walk-in).
