Rockville Centre, NY:  Derek Brandi, a 28 year old video editor from Whitestone, NY won his third LIGBT tournament in a low scoring shootout at Rockville Centre Lanes. Derek defeated Becky Novello, Brooklyn, NY 214-196 to win the $1,000 top prize. While Becky took home $500 for second, third went to Joe Freeman, Ridgewood, NY with a 187 worth $350. Rounding out the final 5 was fourth place finisher Cameron Potts, Babylon, NY, with a 183 earning $300 and Max Thomas, Stamford, CT with a 173 worth $250 finished fifth.

The final 5 shootout at RVC Lanes was one of the lowest in LIGBT history. The USBC Masters pattern proved challenging all day and was very apparent in the shootout. Out of the 50 frames bowled there were 20 opens (40%!) Cameron had the only double but also had 5 opens. Derrick won the title because he only had two open frames and when he struck in the tenth he secured the $1,000 victory.

The RVC Lanes tournament drew a nice summer crowd of 102 entries, advanced 18 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $3,790. The tournament pattern was the 2016 USBC Masters resulting in very low cut scores; 695 in the 1pm squad and 684 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by second place finisher Becky Novello with a 764 in the 3pm squad. Sal Florindo, Forest Hills, NY, was the wildcard winner with a 1366.

LIGBT’s next tournament is our 2-day July 4th Weekend Major at Farmingdale Lanes (Friday, July 1 and Sunday, July 3). Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $2,000-1st, $1,000-2nd, $750-3rd, & $500-4th.
