Adam had to bowl all 3 rounds of the finals; shooting 233 in round 1 (advancing by only 3 pins) and 212 in round 2 which was the cut. But in the Championship Shootout Adam took immediate control with the first 8 out of 9 strikes to finish with a 258 game.

Adam’s closest competitor was senior champion, George Mottern of Riverhead, who earned $600 with a 211 game. Rounding out the final four was last event’s champion, Brian Ziesig of Levittown who earned $400 with a 203 and Craig Koppell of Huntington Station who shot a 176 and took home $300. A total of 15 bowlers advanced to the finals.

The 210 and under handicap event was packed with 63 eager bowlers all looking to take home the champion’s trophy. After the 3 games of qualifying anyone who shot a 663 series, with handicap and bonus pins, advanced to the finals and cashed for a minimum of $80. Tony Chin of Whitestone was the qualifying leader with a 739 and was automatically seeded into the final shootout.

Ziesig and Oakman Win LIGBT Major Titles

Posted On: November 30, 2009

Scratch Champion, Brian Ziesig

November 29, 2009

Babylon, NY: LIGBT hosted its first weekend major event over Thanksgiving at AMF Babylon. Over 350 entries competed for $21,000 in prize money. The scratch title went to Brian Ziesig of Levittown who earned $3,000 for his first LIGBT victory. The 210 and under handicap champion was Mack Oakman of Wheatly Heights who won $1,500 for his first LIGBT title.

The LIGBT Major consisted of 5 qualifying squads all leading to an elimination finals. The scratch and handicap events had 22 finalists each. All finalists were guaranteed to earn double their entry and all squad leaders were given 1 bye in the finals.

Brian’s road to his title started in Round 2 of the finals as he earned 1 bye for leading the Sunday noon squad with a 749. Brian made an early statement in the finals by shooting a 240 in Round 2 and came back with a 223 in Round 3. But Brian saved his finest performance for the Shootout Round where he started with 6 consecutive strikes and finished with a 257 game.

The Championship Shootout featured some great bowling under a lot of pressure. Finishing second was Steve Chiarella of Staten Island who rolled a 240 and earned $1,500. The third place finisher was our top senior bowler, Jim Hosier of New Jersey who rolled a 223 game and earned $1,000. Finishing up the final four was John Conroy of Mahopac who earned $700 for his 207 game. The only 300 of the tournament was shot by Anthony Pepe of Queens who rolled his perfect game in the Sunday 2pm squad.

The 210 and under handicap event continued its amazing growth as 185 entries were recorded which created a prize fund exceeding $7,800. Mack Oakman, a great LIGBT supporter who rarely misses an event, finally got to stand in the winner’s circle at LIGBT’s biggest tournament as of yet. Mack rolled a fine 233 game with handicap, getting a spare and eight in the tenth frame, to lock out his closest competitor Dave Soren of Long Beach who rolled a 219 with handicap. Dave, who shot the highest qualifying series of the tournament (798 with handicap and bonus pins), earned $750 for his fine second place finish.

Rounding out the 210 and under shootout was Ed Dougherty of Patchogue who earned $400 with a 210 game and Scott Shultz of Orlando, FL who earned $300 for his 189 game. A total of 46 bowlers cashed in the handicap event.

The next LIGBT event, Sunday, December 13th at AMF Garden City, is the Tour’s annual holiday tournament which is being sponsored by CLS Custom Upholsterers. All entrants will receive a holiday gift for participating in the event. The scratch tournament will feature 5 games of qualifying with 1 in 4 advancing to the finals. The handicap tournament will have its regular 3 games of qualifying and 1 in 4 advancing to the finals. Top prizes are guaranteed at $1,000 for the scratch event and $500 for the handicap tournament. Chris Ziesig Wins N. Levittown Scratch Title

Posted On: November 09, 2009

George Mottern, Brian Soto, John Conroy,Chris Ziesig and JoAnn, Mgr N.Levittown Lanes

November 8, 2009

N. Levittown, NY: The LIGBT hosted its second event of its second season and crowned two new champions; Chris Ziesig of Hicksville, NY won the scratch title and $1,000 while Robert Bader of Holtsville, NY won the 210 & under handicap title and $500. A total of 99 bowlers competed for more than $8,000 in prize money.

It was pretty evident early on that Chris Ziesig was going to have a good day. Chris started with a 279 first game and never looked back. He was the 49 & under squad leader which seeded Chris directly into the Championship Shootout. In his only game in the finals Chris rolled a 257 and beat out the Senior Champion, George Mottern ($600) of Riverhead by 3 pins. Chris doubled in the tenth frame to force George to do the same but a split on his second ball gave Chris the title.

The Championship Shootout was filled with great shot making and high scores. Three out of the four bowlers in the shootout had a chance to win the title going into the later frames. Finishing third was Brian Soto of Kew Gardens who rolled a 247 game which earned him $400. Rounding out the shootout and finishing fourth was John Conroy of Mahopac who stumbled with a 187 earning him $300.

The 210 and under final shootout was fun to watch with an unlikely outcome. Two of the finalists were former LIGBT Champions (Preston Cheeks and Cary Fishman) going against Robert Bader who had yet to win an LIGBT event. That didn’t seem to bother Robert as he crushed the two former champions by over 30 pins, with a 238 game, to take the title and the championship trophy.  Preston Cheeks (207) of Brooklyn earned $300 for his second place finish and Cary Fishman of Manhattan (203) earn $200 for third place.

The next LIGBT event is the Tour’s first “Major” which will be held at AMF Babylon over Thanksgiving Weekend. Top prizes are guaranteed at $3,000 for the scratch event and $1,500 for the handicap tournament. There will be 5 qualifying squads to choose from and multiple cashing is allowed. As always, 1 in 4 bowlers per squad will cash in both events. For more information on the LIGBT, and complete results of the North Levittown event, please visit our website at www.ligbtour.com or call the tournament office at 1.877.900.6464.

AMF Plainview Recap

Posted On: October 19, 2009

The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT) second season kicked off with its first of 18 events at AMF Plainview. A total of 95 bowlers, up 20% from last year’s first event, competed for over $7,000 in prizes. The winner of the scratch event was Dennis Nicol of Staten Island, NY earning $1,000. The 210 & under champion, was female bowler Hee Jin Jun of Flushing, NY who earned $500.

The scoring pace at AMF Plainview was the most challenging pattern used in LIGBT history. In the scratch event it only took a 195 average to make the finals in the 49 & under division and a 187 average in the senior division. In the 210 & under tournament it only took a 602 series, with handicap and bonus pins, to advance. Good shot making was definitely at a premium.

Dennis Nicol, a right-handed bowler who threw the ball fast and straight, was the qualifying leader with an 869 four game block. With his qualifying leader position Dennis was seeded into the final match and only had to bowl one game to win the title. He did just that rolling a 232 game to outpace his nearest competitor by 32 pins. Finishing second was Sal Materra, a super senior from Nesconset, NY. Sal needed a hit in the 10th frame to secure second place and the $500 payout. In third place was lefty Darren Andretta of New Hyde Park, who shot a 195 and took home $300. Rounding out the top 4 shootout was previous LIGBT Champion Alex Cavagnaro of Lindenhurst who rolled a 180 and earned $250.

The 210 and under final shootout was dominated by Hee Jin Jun. Hee won her first LIGBT title with a 202 game (including handicap and bonus pins) that included two split conversions. Hee’s nearest competitor was Lou Medina of W. Babylon, NY who earned $250 with a 179 game. Finishing third in the shootout was the qualifying leader (658), John Palermire of Farmingdale, NY who rolled a 153 and earned $175.

The next LIGBT event is at North Levittown Lanes on Sunday, November 8th at noon. Top prizes are guaranteed at $1,000 for the scratch event and $500 for the handicap tournament. As always, 1 in 4 bowlers will advance to the finals in both events. For more information on LIGBT Season 2, and complete results of the AMF Plainview event, please visit our website at www.ligbtour.com or call the tournament office at 1.877.900.6464.

Joe Stillman & Cary Fishman LIGBT Champions

September 12, 2009

Garden City, NY: The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT) first season came to close at AMF Garden City. A total of 94 bowlers competed for over $5,000 in prizes. The winner of the scratch event was Joe Stillman of Staten Island, NY earning $1,000. The 210 & under champion, winning his second LIGBT title in a row, was Cary Fishman of New York City who earned $500.

The scoring pace at AMF Garden City was low as good shot making was at a premium. In the scratch event it only took a 209 average to make the cut in the under group and a 202 average for the seniors. The high qualifiers who earned spots in the final shootout were junior bowler Ray Novaro of East Patchogue, NY who shot an 1194 series (239 average) and Super Senior Ralph Ehrlich of N. Massapequa, NY earned the senior top spot, for a second tournament in a row, with a 1028 block (206 average). There was a 55 year age difference between the two qualifying leaders proving the LIGBT is truly “generational”!

The scratch championship shootout was very close the first five frames as all 4 bowlers were within 10 pins of each other. But Joe Stillman took control and struck in the 6th frame through the 10th to secure his first LIGBT title. Joe finished with a 245 giving him a comfortable 24 pin victory over second place finisher Super Senior Ralph Ehrlich (221) who earned $600. There was a tie for the last two spots in the shootout as Joe Novaro and Mike Wodinski both shot 176 and earned $350. Since Joe is an amateur junior bowler his winnings went directly to the USBC SMART program to be used for Joe to go to college.

The 210 and under final shootout consisted of bowlers with a lot of LIGBT finals experience.   Cary Fishman earned the $500 top prize by shooting a 233 game (199 + 34 pins). Finishing second with a 212 game (201 + 11 pins) was Vito Genova, who finished third in the last event, and earned $250. Rounding out the top 4 was Jae Yi of Flushing who earned $175 with a 210 game (192 + 18 pins) and Robert Bader who shot a 206 (182 + 24 pins) and cashed for $125.

At the Garden City event the LIGBT announced its Season 2 schedule. The 2009-10 LIGBT season will consist of 16 events including 3 majors. The LIGBT will be visiting several new centers including AMF Plainview which will be the host of our next event on Sunday, October 18th. The winner of the scratch event was Adam Chase of Seaford, NY earning $1,000. The 210 & under champion was Cary Fishman of New York City who earned $350.

The scoring pace at AMF Babylon was very competitive. In the scratch event it only took a 209 average to make the cut in the under group and a 197 average for the seniors. The high qualifiers who earned spots in the final shootout were Adam Chase of Seaford, NY who shot an 1133 series (226 average) and Super Senior Ralph Ehrlich of N. Massapequa, NY earned the top spot with a 994 block (198 average).

The finals shootout was truly “generational” as Adam Chase- 22 years old, Alex Cavaganaro 25 years old, and Ralph Ehrlich 75 years old competed for the top 3 spots. Adam Chase, the young gun, dominated the finals with a clean 245 game. Adam earned his first LIGBT title and $1,000. Alex Cavagnaro, Lindenhurst, NY, finished second with a 190 game and earned $500. Ralph Ehrlich from N. Massapequa, the only lefty in the shootout, rounded out the top 3 with a 173 and earned $250.

The 210 and under final shootout was totally dominated by Cary Fishman. Cary earned his first LIGBT title with a wonderful 289 game (253 scratch.) Anna won $116 since she was the only bowler to match the mystery number. The two 300 game jackpots were not hit and will increase at the next event to $182 for the scratch division and $522 for the 210 & under group.

The LIGBT’s next stop is on Saturday, September 12th at AMF Garden City. This will be LIGBT’s first Saturday event which has a starting time of 6pm. For more information please visit our website at www.ligbtour.com or call the tournament office at 1.877.900.6464.
