BRIAN ZIESIG WINS HIS SECOND TITLE

East Meadow, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF East Meadow and crowned two champions. Winning his second scratch title and the $1,000 top prize was Brian Ziesig of Levittown, NY. Earning his first handicap trophy, and its $500 top prize, was Ken Savarese of W. Hempstead, NY. Amazingly, both champions barely made the finals as they were the cut score.

The scratch event was a four game qualifier that was bowled on the PBA Chameleon Pattern. Scoring was widespread as Joe Costanzo, Bethpage, NY dominated the field in qualifying by averaging 252. But to make the finals it only took a 220 average. Andy Ippolito of Forest Hills, NY was the senior leader with an 811 series.

The finals were made up of some of the best local bowlers. Amanda Beck, Patchogue, NY is a top women bowler, Anthony Pepe, Queens, NY is one of the best lefties on the east coast, Brian Ziesig is a PBA Champion, and Joe Costanzo is a very highly rated Long Island bowler. In the final shootout Brian Ziesig had an early 20 pin lead and never relinquished it. In the end Brian won his second LIGBT title with a fine 242 with second place going to Anthony Pepe who earned $500 (214). Joe Costanzo took home third with a 211 and earned $300 while Amanda earned $200 for her fourth place finish with a 169.

The handicap event had a unique finish to its qualifying as a husband and wife finished first and second; Pat and Christine Loliscio of Stony Brook, NY took the top 2 qualifying positions with a 720 and 713 respectively. To make the handicap finals it took a 683 series and that spot was amazingly taken by the eventual champion Ken Savarese.

The handicap shootout consisted of 3 LIGBT veterans and all performed well. Ken Savarese is a LIGBT regular and he really wanted his first title. Ken bowled well and shot a 182 scratch (236 with handicap) to secure the $500 top prize and his first title. Finishing second was Damon Gizzi of St. James, NY with a 207 ($300) and third place went to Pat Loliscio who rolled a 200 and took home $200.

The LIGBT’s next event is on Saturday, October 30^th at Bowl Long Island in Patchogue. The handicap event will be a 2-squad tournament and the scratch event will be a 6-game marathon. Dan Brezo & Rob Vecchione Win Their First LIGBT Titles

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF Garden City on a beautiful Sunday and crowned two brand new champions. Winning his first scratch title and the $1,000 top prize was Dan Brezo of Coram, NY. Earning his first handicap trophy, and its $500 top prize, was Rob Vecchione of Massapequa Park, NY.

The scratch event was a four game qualifier that was bowled on the PBA Chameleon Pattern. Scoring was fairly low most of the day as Dan Brezo was the squad leader with an 899 series. To advance to the finals it only took a 214 average, while the top senior, Norm Ginsberg Sr. of West Babylon, NY advanced with a 770 series (192 average.)

The finals has some better scoring as Adam Chase, last tournament’s champion, rolled through the first two rounds with a 286 and 227 game. But in the final match Dan Brezo completely dominated Adam and started with the first 6 strikes on his way to a 256. Adam earned $500 despite the fact he lost to Dan by 95 pins!

The handicap event was lead by Aeyesha Gomez of Corona, NY, who was the qualifying leader with a 733. To make the handicap finals you had to shoot a 679 with handicap and bonus pins. Ironically, the eventual champion, Rob Vecchione, was the bowler that rolled the 679 series to advance.

The handicap shootout was very exciting as all three bowlers had a chance to win the title going into the tenth frame. James Walsh of Glen Cove threw a spare and strike in the tenth to force Rob to double to win the title. Rob threw a crossover strike on his first ball and buried the second shot to shoot a 262 to win the $500 and his first LIGBT title. Finishing second, with a 253 was James Walsh ($300), and the qualifying leader, Aeyesha, finished third with a 244 and took home $200.

Adam Chase & John Pasciucco Win LIGBT Titles at Baldwin Lanes

Baldwin, NY: The LIGBT visited Baldwin Lanes for the first time and a great crowd of 113 entries packed the center. Congratulations to our two newest champions; Adam Chase of Seaford, NY who won the scratch title and $1,000 while the handicap title went to John Pasciucco of Baldwin, NY who won $500.

The scratch event offered bowlers two ways to make the finals; bowl 6 games or 3 games. The six game qualifying leader was Adam Chase who rolled a 1331 series (222 average). Adam was automatically seeded into the final shootout. The 3 game qualifying leader was Joe Novara, East Patchogue, NY who shot a 655 (218 average) and earned 1 bye in the finals.

Adam’s great bowling in qualifying didn’t stop in the finals. In the shootout Adam crushed his 3 opponents and shot a 240. His closest competitor was Jason French of Levittown, NY, who was making his second consecutive shootout, and shot a 191 to finish second and earn $500. The third bowler in the shootout was John Conroy of Mahopac, NY. John rolled a 172 to win $250.

The handicap event had some great bowling despite a very tough pattern. Michael Conroy of Mahopac, NY hit the 300 game jackpot (269 scratch) and earned $170. The 6pm qualifying leader was Jae Yi, Flushing, NY who rolled a 754 series and was seeded directly into the shootout. Michael Conroy was the 8pm squad leader with an incredible 794 series and earned 1 bye in the finals.

The handicap shootout was a total domination by John Pasciucco. John bowled so well (289 handicap) that his scratch score of 232 would have beaten the other 3 opponents with their handicap. Finishing second, with a 229, was Cary Fishman of NYC. Cary earned $350 for second while Ken Harrison (222) of Queens, NY took home $300 for third and Jae Yi earned $250 for her fourth place finish.

Frank LoCascio & David Reed Win LIGBT Titles

Mineola, NY: The LIGBT kicked off its third season at AMF Sheridan with its first of 36 tournaments. A total of 71 bowlers attended this very high scoring event which is unusual for the LIGBT. The first champions of Season 3 were scratch bowler Frank LoCasio of Roslyn, NY and handicap bowler David Reed of Shoreham, NY. Both earned $500 for their victories and won their second LIGBT trophy.

The scratch event started out with a bang as Mitch Sacks of Monroe, NY hit the 300 game jackpot with a perfect game in game #1. The qualifying leader was Jason French of Levittown, NY who rolled a 792 series. Jason was guaranteed in the final match for being the squad leader.

Frank LoCascio’s march to his second LIGBT title almost didn’t happen as he was the final bowler to advance to the finals. Frank shot a 713 series to sneak in but easily advanced through the finals to win the title. In the final match Frank started slowly but he struck out from the fourth frame on to roll a 257 game easily defeating Jason who rolled a 204. Jason took home $250 for his runner-up position.

The handicap event had some dominant performances in qualifying. Jim Walsh, Glen Cove, NY bowled two 300 handicap games and an incredible 876 handicap series to finish as the high qualifier. Joe Gentile, Melville, NY who qualified second with an 854 series, also rolled a 300 handicap game. The 3 bowlers that hit the 300 game jackpot shared the money equally.

The handicap shootout was very exciting as three very good bowlers competed for $1,000 in prize money. David Reed rolled a 236 (205 scratch) to defeat Darryl Freeman (230- 192 scratch) of New York City by 6 pins. Darryl earned $300 while top qualifier, Jim Walsh, took home third place with a 201 (170 scratch) and earned $200.

The LIGBT has four October events scheduled; October 2^nd at Baldwin Bowl, October 17^th at AMF Garden City, October 24^th at AMF East Meadow, and October 30^th at Bowl Long Island in Patchogue. LIGBT NOW HAS A 300 GAME JACKPOT!

In bowling a perfect game is 300 and the LIGBT believes a bowler should be rewarded for such a great accomplishment. Beginning with our first event in Season 3, and continuing throughout all 36 tournaments, a 300 game jackpot will be offered.

To win the 300 game jackpot a scratch bowler must bowl a 300 or a handicap bowler must shoot a 300 game with their handicap (bonus pins are not counted) during qualifying. If more than one 300 game is rolled in qualifying the jackpot is divided equally. For a handicap bowler to win the jackpot they must have bowled at least 9 games with the LIGBT.

The LIGBT will start the jackpot at $500. The jackpot will continue to grow every event until it is hit. When it is hit the bowler(s) that break the jackpot will win the amount in the jackpot minus $250. The $250 will be used to start the jackpot at the next tournament.

The jackpot is funded through entry fees so no additional monies are required to be eligible. Every time a bowler is a walk-in entry $2 of their entry fee goes into the jackpot. Money collected at an event will be added to the jackpot at the next event.

LIGBT Announces Season 2 Awards

The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT) is pleased to announce its top performers during its second season. The LIGBT ran 20 handicap events and 18 scratch events which attracted more than 3,400 entries. Over $226,000 in prize money was distributed 1,000+ members.

The scratch tournaments had only one multiple champion; Adam Chase, a 23 year old right hander from Seaford, NY, won two titles at AMF Garden City and Cozy Bowl. Adam was also the earnings leader with $4,170. A total of 11 bowlers earned more than $2,000 and 27 bowlers earned in excess of $1,000.

High average honors went to left handed superstar Anthony Pepe of Queens, NY who averaged 220 for 57 games on a variety of challenging conditions. Anthony also cashed in 11 out of 12 events for an amazing 92% cashing rate. John Conroy, a right-hander from Mahopac, NY, also had a great year; earning $3,020 (5th place), averaging 216 (2nd place), and cashing 89% of the time (2nd place.)

The senior scratch division has some great performances. Seniors earned two titles; Don Hicks, W. Babylon, NY won at AMF East Meadow and Steve Tripp, Garwood, NJ, won at AMF Babylon. The senior average title went to Mike Dioguardo of Patchogue, NY with a 209 average for 51 games. Tim Regan, E. Northport, NY was the top senior earner with $2,370. Chris Keane, New City, NY was the high cashing percentage leader with an 86% cashing rate (6 out of 7 events).

The handicap events had two multiple champions; Alex Ware, Brooklyn, NY won two titles at AMF Commack and East Islip Lanes. Mack Oakman Jr., Wheatley Heights, NY, won his two titles at AMF Babylon and at South Levittown Lanes. Mack also was the earnings leader with $3,300. A total of 13 different bowlers earned $1,000 or more in season 2.

Leading in the handicap cashing percentage stats was Ken Harrison, Queens, NY with a 70% cashing rate (7 out of 10 events). The bowler with the most cashes was Cary Fishman, NYC, who cashed in 12 different events. Cary was also fourth in the earnings list with $1,750. Robert Bader Sr., Holtsville, NY and Mike Ruggiero, Smithtown, NY also had a great year earning $2,000 each.

A special thanks to everyone that participated in an LIGBT event this year. We appreciate your support so much and hope to keep expanding the tour and our friendship. Congratulations to everyone that cashed and a special salute to all of our champions. You should be proud of your accomplishments.

LIGBT ANNOUNCE SEASON 3 SCHEDULE

Syosset, NY: The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT), sponsored by Columbia 300, released its 2010-11 schedule that includes 36 events for both scratch and handicap bowlers. The LIGBT also announced the top and bottom prizes will be guaranteed regardless of entries and most tournaments will feature 1 in 4 advancing to the finals.

After a very successful second season, that had 18 events and attracted over 3,400 entries, the LIGBT will double the number of tournaments in Season 3. The schedule will be divided into 4 seasons with the Fall, Winter, and Spring having 10 events each and the Summer having six. At the final event of each season bowlers can win free entries to The Mini-Eliminator in Las Vegas.

The LIGBT will be hosting events all over Long Island with half of them in Suffolk and the other half in Nassau. There is one event in Queens at JIB Lanes. To accommodate as many bowlers as possible the LIGBT will run half of the events on Saturday evenings and the other half on Sunday afternoons. There will be four 2-day events, all at AMF Babylon, featuring the highest top prizes of the season.

The handicap regular events will have guaranteed top prizes of $500 & $250 with 1 in 4 advancing to the finals (minimum of $75.) Entry fees for the regular events are $60 prepaid and $65 for walk-in entries. The regular scratch tournaments will have four games of qualifying with 1 in 4 advancing to the finals and earning a minimum of $100. Top prizes of are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500 regardless of entries. The scratch events will once again feature separate qualifying for 49 & unders and seniors.

Babylon, NY: The LIGBT ran its 20^th and final event of Season 2 at AMF Babylon and over 225 bowlers packed the center on a beautiful Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Two brand new champions were crowned, each winning $1,000, and they were Handicap Champion Richard Walker of Brooklyn, NY and Scratch Champion Brandon Robertson of Clinton, CT. A total of 55 bowlers advanced to the finals vying for over $9,000 in prize money.

The scratch tournament attracted 83 entries over two squads. The two 49 & under squad leaders and the high senior of the day each earned a bye in the finals. The bye winners were; Anthony Pepe, Queens, NY (4pm) with a 913, Dan Brezo, Coram NY (7pm) with a 982 and senior leader Tim Regan, E. Northport, NY with an 842 series. The 3 bye winners were all guaranteed a minimum of $150.

The scratch final shootout was exciting as Brandon, the eventual champion, was in third place after 7 frames. But Brandon struck out from the seventh frame on to shoot a 221 and secure his first LIGBT title and the $1,000 top prize. Finishing second was Anthony Pepe who earned $500 with a 202 game. Third place winner was super senior bowler Norm Ginsberg Sr., W. Babylon, NY who shot a 155 and took home $300. Despite the fact the entry fee was lowered by 30% to only $70 $4,900 was paid out in the scratch tournament.

The handicap event attracted an incredible 146 entries for the two squads. A total of 36 bowlers advanced to the finals with the two squad leaders, Ken Harrison, Queens, NY 722 (4pm squad) Scott Parker 758 (7pm squad) earning 1 bye. To make the finals in the handicap event you needed to shoot a 680 series (with handicap and bonus pins) in the 4pm squad and a 677 in the 7pm squad.

Richard’s road to the title had him go through four rounds in the finals. In the first 3 rounds Rich Rich shot handicap games of 237, 261, and 250. In the final game Rich started strong with a double and finished with a 180 scratch game and 236 handicap game. That was good enough by 3 pins over the second place finisher Scott Parker of Arverne, NY. Finishing third was Eddie Shacalo of Brooklyn (211- 148 scratch) who earned $300. Fourth place went to John Harris, Riverhead, NY who rolled a 210 (165 scratch) and earned $250. The handicap prize fund paid out $4,950.

The LIGBT will be announcing its season 3 schedule by September 15^th. The third LIGBT season will feature many new bowling centers, different formats and lane patterns, and an expanded schedule.
