Brian Ziesig Wins the LIGBT Holiday Tournament at AMF Sayville

Sayville, NY:  The LIGBT visited AMF Sayville for a special 1 squad holiday tournament and 92 bowlers filled the center to compete for over $10,000 in prizes. Emerging victorious in the scratch event was Brian Ziesig of Levittown, NY and the handicap winner was Robert Bader Sr., Holtsville, NY. A total of 25 bowlers cashed for the day which means better than 1 in 4 bowlers earned money.
 
The scratch event was a 4 game qualifier that was bowled on Kegel’s 41 foot Beaten Path Pattern. The only bowler to average over 225 was Joe Stillman of Staten Island. Joe shot a 908 series to lead the day and earn a bye into the final match. The high senior for the day was Gary Shultis of Levittown, NY who rolled an 872 to earn a bye into round 2. It took an 832 series (208 average) to earn a spot on the prize list. Four bowlers earned spots into the LIUSBC Masters; Frank Spano, Joe Novara, Steve Chiarella, and Darren Barlow.
 
The final match in the scratch event put together two former LIGBT Champions. It was the powerful lefty (Joe) versus the accurate right hander (Brian.) Joe started with a spare and a triple to take an early lead. Brian finally started to string strikes from the 6th frame to his first ball in the tenth to shoot a 238 and defeated Joe by 16 pins. Brian earned $700 for his third LIGBT title while Joe took home $400 for second. 
 
The handicap event had 67 bowlers with the top 16 series advancing to the finals. It took a 718 series with handicap and bonus pins to advance and be guaranteed at least a $100 payday. Leading qualifier was Chris DiDamo of Glenwood Landing, NY who rolled an 802 series (604 scratch) and he earned a bye directly into the final shootout.
 
The handicap final four shootout had some good scoring but none better than by Robert Bader Sr. Robert started with a strike, open, and spare his first three frames but struck out the rest of the way to shoot an incredible 289 handicap game (252 scratch.) His closest competitor, who also bowled great, was Ed Shacalo, Brooklyn, NY who shot a 246 (188 scratch). Robert earned $500 for his victory while Ed took home $300 for his runner-up position. Finishing third was So Young Chin of Whitestone, NY who rolled a 238 (202 scratch) to win $250 and fourth went to Chris DiDamo who bowled a 210 (159 scratch) to earn $200. So Young also won a Mini-Eliminator Mini Marathon entry with room with her 788 qualifying series.
 
The LIGBT’s next event is a handicap only tournament at AMF East Meadow on Sunday, January 9th with squads at noon and 2pm. The next scratch and handicap event will be at AMF Plainview on Sunday, January 23rd. LIGBT WILL AWARD FOUR LI MASTERS ENTRIES AT AMF SAYVILLE

The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT), which is sponsored by Columbia 300, CLS Upholsterers, and Kegel, will be hosting a very special event on Sunday, December 19th at AMF Sayville. This tournament will feature one squad of four game qualifying. The four highest qualifying series that don’t make the finals will win a $150 entry into the prestigious Long Island Masters.

The LIGBT scratch event guarantees $1,000 & $500 for the top 2 places with only 35 entries. Qualifying is done by division, 49 & under/senior, with 1 in 5 advancing from each group. The top series of the tournament is guaranteed in the final shootout while the high series from the other division will earn 1 bye (minimum $300.)

The lane pattern for the AMF Sayville event will be Kegel’s “Beaten Path” which is 41 feet. New members and guests are welcomed and can sign up on-line at www.ligbtour.com or enter on-site at AMF Sayville. Starting time is 2pm with sign-ups beginning at 1pm. The AMF Sayville tournament will also feature a 3-game handicap event for bowlers 220 & under. This one squad qualifying tournament will have 1 in 4 bowlers advancing to the finals. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $500 & $250 regardless of entries. Prepaid entry fee is only $60 with the walk-in entry fee at $65.

During the handicap event a free Mini-Eliminator Mini Marathon entry will be awarded to the eligible member with highest qualifying series including handicap (no bonus pins.) To be eligible for this bonus you must have bowled in at least 4 other LIGBT events in Season 3. Prepaid entries are now being accepted on-line at www.ligbtour.com. Walk-in entries are welcomed.

New Hyde Park, NY: The LIGBT visited Herrill Lanes for the first time and the handicap only event was a big success. A great turnout of 70 bowlers competed on the PBA Chameleon pattern which produced fairly low scores. The final shootout involved 4 bowlers looking for their first LIGBT title. Emerging victorious with the $500 winner’s check was George Williams of Jamaica, NY.   
A total of 14 bowlers made the elimination finals and all were guaranteed to earn at least $100. Lenny Tortorice of Flushing, NY was seeded directly into the final shootout by leading the 1pm squad with a 710. Donald Eubanks, Elmsford, NY earned 1 bye for leading the 3pm squad with a 734 series.The cut score to get through the first round was 213 and 195 for the second round.
The final shootout was tense as all 4 competitors had opens in the early frames. But once things calmed down George Williams, Jamaica, NY, proved to be the best of the bunch. George rolled 5 strikes in the final 3 frames to seal the victory and the $500 top prize with a 263 (214 scratch.) Finishing second was Donald Eubanks who earned $340 with a 217 (177 scratch). Rounding out the top 4 was third place finisher Joette Healey, Yonkers, NY ($250) who shot a 202 (153 scratch) and fourth place went to Lenny Tortorice who won $200 with a 184 (155 scratch.)   
LIGBT’s next event will be on Sunday, December 19th at AMF Sayville. This will be a 1 squad event featuring a separate scratch and handicap competition. Starting time is 2pm and several specials will be offered including the awarding of LIUSBC Masters entries in the scratch event and Mini-Eliminator entries in the handicap event. Chris Jove & Joe Novara Earn Their First LIGBT Titles

East Islip, NY:  The LIGBT visited East Islip Lanes for a 2 squad handicap tournament and a 5 game scratch marathon. The tournament attracted a great crowd of 110 entries including many new members. Even though the LIGBT has run over 30 events in its first two plus seasons we are still crowning first time champions at each tournament.
 
The first time winners at East Islip were scratch champion Joe Novara of E. Patchogue, NY who earned $1,000 and Chris Jove of Port Jefferson, NY who won $500 for winning the handicap event. The event was bowled on a house shot which produced the highest scores in LIGBT history. Normally the LIGBT puts down a PBA condition or uses one of the Kegel Challenge Series Patterns.
 
The scratch event started off with a bang as two 300 games and a 298 set the scoring pace. The top two bowlers in the 49 & under division and the top senior were guaranteed in the final shootout. Joe Novara, who averaged 267 and John Rizzi of South Huntington, NY (266 average) were the two 49 & under leaders. The high senior bowler was Frank Spano, Brentwood, NY who averaged 252, including a 300 game. It took a 258 average to make the finals in the 49 & under division and a 251 average in the senior division.
 
To fill the fourth spot in the scratch shootout a 1 game finals was bowled by all the non-seeded finalists. Mike Dioguardo of Patchogue, NY rolled a 290 to advance as he defeated Brian Ziesig, Levittown, NY by 2 pins. Brian shot 288 with a blow out 7-10 on his fill ball. The shootout was exciting as Joe Novara held a 10 pin lead in the 9th frame and struck out to shoot 268 to win the title. Finishing second was John Rizzi ($750) with a 253, third went to Frank Spano ($550) with a 245 and finishing fourth was Mike Dioguardo (210) who earned $400.
 
The handicap event also enjoyed big scores. Leading the first squad was your eventual winner, Chris Jove. Chris was seeded directly into the last match of the finals by leading the first squad with an 857 series (740 scratch.) The second squad leader was Leo Lombardi of West Babylon, NY. Leo shot an incredible 893 series (758 scratch) to earn 1 bye in the finals. It took a 769 to make the finals in the first squad and a 769 in the second squad.
 
The handicap shootout was exciting and Champion Chris Jove took control immediately with a triple. Except for an open frame in the fourth Chris struck in every frame to shoot a 265 scratch game (304 with handicap). Finishing second and earning $300 was Jim Walsh, Glen Cove, NY with a 252 (221 scratch). Third place went to Tom Strother ($250), Medford, NY with a 243 (215 scratch) and fourth went to Eddie Shacalo, Brooklyn, NY ($200) who rolled a 231 (168 scratch).
 
The LIGBT’s next event is our Thanksgiving Weekend Major at AMF Babylon. The 2-day event begins on Saturday, November 27th with 2 squads (4pm & 6pm) and will finish up on Sunday with 2 more squads and the finals (noon & 2pm.) LONG ISLAND GENERATIONS TOUR (LIGBT) UPGRADES 2011 SCHEDULE

The LIGBT announced today it is revising its schedule to better accommodate its over 1,000 members. New dates were announced through June 1st with future summer events to be revealed at a later date. The current schedule lists 16 events throughout Nassau and Suffolk bowling centers.

The LIGBT also announced it is upgrading its prize funds, adding a “members only” end-of-the-year event and bringing back its membership options including a $10 guest fee for those that don’t want to join. The entry fees are staying the same except are being reduced when handicap events have 2 squads where bowlers can now re-enter for only $40. All prepaid entrants still save $5 off the walk-in entry fee.

LIGBT bowlers are going to love the new prize fund structure. In the handicap events all finalists are guaranteed to earn at least $100 and all squad leaders will earn $150. The top prizes are still guaranteed to pay $500-1st and $250-2nd regardless of entries.

The scratch prizes funds are also being upgraded as all finalists (1 in 5) will earn a minimum of $200. In marathon events all finalists (1 in 5) will earn $250. Top prizes of $1,000-1st & $500-2nd are guaranteed with 35 entries but will grow to $1,500-1st & $750-2nd with 80 entries. All finalists will earn at least $100 more each round they advance. The extra prize money is being funded by the LIGBT who will add $5 per entry to all scratch prize funds. With the added money the LIGBT is now taking out less than 10% for expenses!

The LIGBT is creating a new event just for its members. This new tournament will have a minimum of $5,000 added and the entry fee will be determined by the number of events you bowl in a season. The more you enter the less your entry fee will be in this special tournament. The $5,000 added will be funded two ways; through the $5 walk-in fees and through the profits from the 50-50 raffles run at each LIGBT event. Details of the format and prize fund will be announced at a later date.

The LIGBT is also pleased to announce Columbia 300 will be partnering with us to offer a variety of membership packages. The annual membership fee has been reduced to $20 but bowlers can still get the embroidered 2-ball tote with their membership for $30. Bowlers looking for a performance ball can now purchase the gold package which includes the latest ball release from Columbia 300. This package, which comes with a 1-year membership, is only $120 (a $250 value.) Members needing a ball and a double or triple roller should consider the platinum packages which start at $160.

Beginning immediately, the 300 game bonus has been eliminated, and the remaining money is going to the end of the year tournament prize fund ($580.) The $10 recruiting bonus, which was funded out of your weekly prize fund, is also being stopped to allow for the bigger weekly prize funds. There are still no credit card fees being charged but the $5 walk-in fee remains.

Donnel Matheson Wins LIGBT Handicap Title

South Levittown, NY:  The Long Island Generation Bowling Tour visited South Levittown Lanes for a handicap only event. The tournament attracted 94 entries which created a 19 person finals and a $3,270 prize fund. Taking home the $500 top prize was Donnel Matheson of Brooklyn, NY who won his first LIGBT trophy after 11 tournaments.
 
The handicap event was bowled on Kegel’s Broadway pattern which produced a moderate scoring environment. The first squad was lead by Robert Lovaglio, Seaford, NY who shot a 755 handicap series. For leading the first squad Robert was seeded into the final shootout and guaranteed at least $300. Leading the second squad was David Reed, Shoreham, NY who shot a 778 handicap series and earned 1 bye in the finals which guaranteed him $150. The cut to make the finals was 689 in the first squad and 675 in the second squad.
 
The shootout was the lowest scoring finals in LIGBT history. Would you believe Donnel shot a 126 scratch game (198 handicap) and won! Finishing second, with a 147 scratch game (188 handicap), was Chris Jove, Port Jefferson, NY who earned $375. The third place finisher was Robert Lovaglio who shot a 141 scratch game (179 handicap) and earned $300.

Amanda Beck Wins Her First LIGBT Title

Patchogue, NY:  The LIGBT visited Bowl Long Island on Saturday night of Halloween weekend and 95 bowlers packed the center. For the second time in the last 3 events both the scratch and handicap tournaments crowned first time champions. Winning her first LIGBT scratch title was Amanda Beck of Patchogue, NY who earned $1,000.  Winning his first LIGBT handicap title was Jim Walsh of Glencove, NY who earned $500.
 
The scratch event was a six game marathon that was bowled on the PBA Cheetah Pattern. Scoring was moderate as it took a 217 average in the 49 & under division to make the finals and only a 176 average to advance in the senior division. Three bowlers were seeded into the shootout after qualifying, the top two 49 & unders; Dave Sulzer, Holbrook, NY (1426) and Ray Edwards, Middle Island, NY (1375) and top senior; Don Hick, W. Babylon (1187).
 
To determine the fourth bowler in the shootout the remaining 1 in 4 finalists rolled one game with the top score advancing and the others earning $200. Amanda Beck rolled a great 267 game to advance. Once in the final shootout Amanda continued her great bowling and won the title with a 235. Finishing second was Ray Edwards ($500) who rolled a 197. Third place went to Dave Sulzer who shot a 182 and earned $300 while fourth went to Don Hicks ($250) with a 154.
 
The handicap event used a two squad format. Leo Lombardi, W. Babylon was the 6pm squad leader (688) and was seeded directly into the shootout. The 8pm squad leader, John Palemire of Farmingdale, NY, was the 8pm squad leader with a 700 and earned 1 bye in the finals. To make the handicap finals you had to shoot a 632 with handicap and bonus pins in both the 6pm and 8pm squads.
 
Jim Walsh has bowled in 35 LIGBT tournaments and never finished higher than second until the Bowl Long Island event. Jim, who is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, advanced to the finals in the 8pm squad with a 691 series. In the finals, Jim advanced two rounds to get into the shootout against three other great bowlers; Leo Lombardi, Samuel Cooke of Patchogue, and Mike Ruggiero of Smithtown.
 
The handicap shootout was exciting and went down to the tenth frame. Jim doubled in the tenth to force Sam to do the same. But a stubborn 10 pin on Sam’s first ball gave Jim his first title and the $500 top prize. The final shootout scores (with handicap) were; Jim ($500) 276, Sam ($300) 264, Mike ($250) 230 and Leo ($200) 214.
 
The LIGBT’s next event is a handicap only tournament at South Levittown Lanes on Sunday, November 7th with squads at 1pm and 3pm. The next scratch and handicap event will be at East Islip Lanes on Sunday, November 21st.
