Wantagh, NY:  Rob Foerster, East Meadow, NY, gave himself a $1,000 birthday present by winning LIGBT’s first Friday night event at AMF Wantagh. Rob won his third LIGBT title with a 253 handicap game to defeat second place finisher Sam Cooke, Patchogue, NY, by 12 pins. Sam earned $500 with his 241 while Damilyn LaCarruba, Lindenhurst, NY, finished third with a 215 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Joe Kingston, Ronkonkoma, NY, with a 213 worth $250.

For Rob to win his third title he had to overcome a tremendous handicap disadvantage. Rob, who has one of the highest averages in the club, had to spot as much as 25 pins in handicap. Rob threw a no-tap 300 game by shooting all 9’s and strikes including a four timer. He had to mark in the final frame to secure his title. Sam, who finished second, bowled well including a triple and double which forced Rob to keep on striking to win.

The AMF Wantagh tournament drew an impressive Friday night crowd of 104 entries, advanced 19 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $3,920 plus two Brunswick balls. Kegel’s “Abbey Road” pattern (40 feet) was used resulting in moderate scoring; the cut was 716 in the 7pm squad and 708 in the 9pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by Bobby Wunsch, East Meadow, NY with an 873 in the 7pm squad. Brunswick awarded two bowling balls to the squad leaders which were Bobby Wunsch (873) at 7pm and Sam Cooke (773) at 9pm.
