FRANK SPANO EARNS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Sayville, NY:  Frank Spano, a 61 year-old construction manager from Brentwood, NY, won his first LIGBT handicap title with a victory at LIGBT’s house shot tournament at AMF Sayville. Frank defeated Marc Miller, Merrick, NY, 290-258 to earn the $1,000 top prize. While Marc earned $500 for second, Matt Umbenhower, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY came in third with a 253 worth $350. Fourth went to Nick Carbonetto, Stony Brook, NY with a 243 earning him $300 and fifth was taken by Eric Vecchi, Islip Terrace, NY with a 214 worth $250.

All 5 shootout finalists were looking for their first LIGBT title. Frank bowled the most consistent game with an early double but still trailed late in the match. Frank struck out from the eighth frame making up a 17 pin deficit and shutting out the rest of the field in the final frame. Marc had the early lead in the match but opened in the 9th frame to finish second.

The AMF Sayville house shot tournament drew a nice crowd of 92 entries, advanced 16 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $3,560. The house shot resulted in very high cut scores; 814 at 1pm squad and 800 at 3pm. High scratch and handicap series of the tournament was shot by Eric Vecchi in the 1pm squad with a 751 scratch series and an 880 handicap series.   

LIGBT’s next tournament is our 2-day Spring Major at AMF Babylon. Qualifying takes place on Friday, April 15th 7pm & 9pm and finishes with 2 Sunday squads, April 17th at 1pm & 3pm.  Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $2,000-1st, $1,000-2nd, $750-3rd, & $500-4th.
