Plainview, NY:  Julio Arnold, a 38 year old security officer from Woodside, NY, won the $3,000 top prize at The LIGBT Thanksgiving Major held at AMF Plainview. Julio shot an incredible 293 handicap game to defeat second place finisher Kameron Smith, Mamaronek, NY by 58 pins. While Kameron’s 235 earned him $1,500 for second place, finishing third was Sean Teahan, Islip, NY with a 222 worth $750. Rounding out the top 4 was senior bowler Dave Soren, Long Beach, NY with a 208 worth $500.

Julio, who has been an LIGBT member since 2010 but had not won a title since 2011, took out his 6-year frustration in the final shootout. Julio started out with a 10 pin spare and then threw 8 strikes in a row to lock up the title by the 8th frame. The battle for second place wasn’t decided until the final frame. Sean and Kameron were tied and when Kameron struck on his first ball, and Sean didn’t, Kameron locked up the runner-up position.

The AMF Plainview event drew a nice Thanksgiving weekend crowd of 193 entries, advanced 34 bowlers to the finals and paid out $11,410. The cut scores on the “Turnpike” pattern ranged from 726 to 746. High series of the tournament was shot by James Marino, Lindenhurst, NY with an 874 in the Friday, 8pm squad. There were 2 wildcard bonuses. The Friday night wildcard was won by Adam DeRossi, Massapequa Park, NY with a 1,400 six game series and the Sunday wildcard was won by Phil Rivera, Franklin Square, NY with a 1437. The no-tap jackpot was hit three times; Eddie Eng won $276 on Friday night, Rob Longiaru won $195 on Sunday at 3pm, and Sun Kim won $84 on Sunday at 5pm.
