Champion Maniram Basdeo

January 8, 2012

Bay Shore, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF Bay Shore for the first time and the event was a great success. A total of 98 entries bowled and when the tournament was over Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY was holding his first LIGBT trophy and the $500 top prize. Finishing second was Jose Ferreira, Woodside, NY who earned $300 and third went to William Knoth, Patchogue, NY who took home $250.

Maniram’s road to his first LIGBT title started in the 1pm squad where he was squad leader with a 765 series. The top series seeded him directly into the final shootout where he only had to bowl 1 game to win the title. The final match was a good one as Jose could have won the title with a mark in the 10th frame but he opened, and Maniram spared, giving him the title. The final shootout handicap scores were Maniram; 240, Jose 230, and William 199.

A total of 22 bowlers advanced to the finals which paid a solid prize fund totaling $3,540. Cut scores were fairly low all day as the PBA Chameleon pattern created a very tough scoring environment. Ed Eng, Whitestone, NY was the highest 6-game non-qualifier (1365) which gave him the wildcard spot in the finals.

The next LIGBT event is a special $50 entry fee tournament at South Levittown Lanes on Sunday, January 15th. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $800 & $400 and every round you advance in the finals you double your winnings.  The South Levittown event will feature two squads (1pm & 3pm) and walk-ins are welcomed.
