John Fitzgerald Wins First LIGBT Title

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT kicked off Season 5 with its first regular singles event at AMF Garden City. John Fitzgerald, Plainview, NY, took home the $1,000 top prize using the Brunswick Nexxus XXX he received at the LIGBT Labor Day Weekend Tournament. John shot a 263 handicap game to win the title by ten pins. Finishing second was 2-time LIGBT Champion Glenn Simpson, Medford, NY. Glen earned $500 with a 253 handicap game.

The final shootout was exciting as the winner was not determined until the final frame. John shot first and struck and Glenn Simpson answered with a strike. John needed one more strike to shut out Glenn and he put his second ball in the tenth right into the pocket for the victory. Finishing third was Cary Fishman, New York, NY earning $250 with a 212 game. Fourth place went to Devon Johnson, Brooklyn, NY earning $200 with a 176.

The Garden City tournament attracted a crowd of 60 entries with 13 bowlers advancing to the finals. The cut score in the 1pm squad, which was led by Glenn Simpson with a 763, was 696 and the cut score in the 3pm squad, which was led by Devon Johnson with a 765, was only 669. The total payout for the day exceeded $3,000.

LIGBT’s next tournament is Sunday, October 7th at East Islip Lanes. First prize is guaranteed to pay $1,000-1st and there will be two squads; 1pm and 3pm. JERRY GIOIA AND GEORGE STEPHENS JR WIN DOUBLES TITLE

Mineola, NY: The LIGBT kicked off its 5th season with a unique doubles event at AMF Sheridan. A total of 20 teams competed for a $3,000 prize fund. The winning team was Jerry Gioia and George Stephens Jr. who earned a $1,500 check. Finishing second was Hermie Hannibal and Christine Hudnell earning $750.

The final match was a classic as it came down to the tenth frame with Hermie and Christine leading by 5 pins. Jerry started with a tenth frame strike while Christine coverted a spare. Jerry needed another strike to win and he threw a great shot to secure his first LIGBT title.

The Doubles event featured a very unique format where each team bowled the team on the same pair to try and earn 30 bonus pins. The match play finals featured two game baker style matches. The entire tournament was bowled on Kegel’s Route 66 pattern which is 45 feet long.

The next LIGBT event is Sunday, September 26th at AMF Garden City. Top prizes are guaranteed at $1,000-1st and $500-2nd in this two squad event (1pm starting time). LIGBT ANNOUNCES SEASON 5 DETAILS

Syosset, NY: The Long Island Generation Bowling Tour (LIGBT) is rolling out season 5 with some big news. The LIGBT is pleased to announce they have entered into a partnership with Brunswick and DV8 to become the official ball of the Tour. All members will enjoy special discounts on all Brunswick products plus the chance to win balls at many events.

The LIGBT also released its fall schedule with 10 events including two Doubles Tournaments, a Major Tournament, and a 5-game New Years Day Marathon. All events will have a minimum $1,000 top prize with a prepaid entry fee of $60. Most events will run on Sunday beginning at 1pm.

Some new rules will take effect immediately including a new maximum average of 220 and the male minimum average increasing to 155 (women minimum remains at 140). Handicapping will now be done using 90% of 220. Also new will be the requirement that bowlers must compete in at least one event prior to a major tournament to be eligible to bowl in the major events. This rule only applies to current LIGBT members. New members are still welcome to join the LIGBT at Major Tournaments.

To add more excitement to LIGBT events several optional programs are being introduced. Bowlers can now enter a doubles event and have as many partners as they want. Bowlers can also increase the amount of money they win by entering a progressive mega jackpot. If a bowler that enters the mega jackpot wins the tournament they win both the $1,000 top prize and the mega jackpot. If the winner doesn't enter the jackpot the money rolls over to the next event. The LIGBT is also adding a progressive mystery score jackpot where if your second game matches the mystery number you win a big bonus.

After 4 successful seasons the LIGBT now boasts over 1,500 members and has paid out in excess of $1,000,000. The key to LIGBT's success is anyone can win at every tournament as no one dominates. LOU MEDINA WINS $3,000 AT LABOR DAY MAJOR

W. Babylon, NY: The LIGBT hosted a 3-day major tournament at AMF Babylon Labor Day weekend and Lou Medina, W. Babylon, NY won the title with a 212 handicap game. Lou earned the $3,000 top prize by defeated second place finisher Jerry Gioia, Franklin Square, NY by 13 pins. Jerry’s 199 handicap game was worth $1,500. Finishing third was Dexter Sapp, Valley Stream, NY who earned $750 with a 191 handicap game.

The final shootout was surprisingly low scoring. In fact there were only 6 total strikes thrown by the three bowlers in the final match. The winner wasn’t decided until the 9th frame as the match was close most of the way. The pressure must have been great for these competitors as there were many open frames the second half of the match.

The LIGBT major tournament drew an amazing 342 entries and paid out in excess of $13,000. There were 57 finalists and a total of 73 bowlers cashing in the prize list. Brunswick gave out their latest high end ball to 37 bowlers that competed in 4 squads.

The next LIGBT event is Sunday, September 16h at AMF Sheridan. The next event will be a special doubles tournament where the top prizes are guaranteed at $1,500-1st and $800-2nd.
