BILL VERNI WINS SPORT SHOT SERIES TITLE

New Hyde Park, NY:   The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its fourth Sport Shot Series event at Herrill Lanes. Bill Verni, W. Babylon, NY won the $1,000 top prize by defeating 2nd place finisher Rich Palumbo, Levittown, NY 229-228 who earned $500. This was Bill’s 4th LIGBT title since becoming a member 12 years ago. Finishing in third place was Damian Rodriquez, Freeport, NY with a 207 worth $300. Rounding out the top 5 was Ed Passaro, Hicksville, NY in 4th place with a 192 worth $250 and William Luna, Corona, NY in 5th with a 170 worth $235.

Bill’s title run started in the noon squad as he earned the bye as squad leader (706) putting him directly into the shootout. The 5-person shootout was a very competitive contest with all 5 bowlers within a few pins going into the final 3 frames. Bill tripled in frames 7-9 forcing Rich to strike out to claim the title. Rich threw the first strike in the 10th but missed on his second shot giving Bill the title.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 66 entries, paid out $3,450 in prize money, and had 17 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $3,185 bringing the total event payout to $6,635.  

Scores to cash on the 45 foot “Route 66” pattern were 682 at noon and 709 at 2pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Anthony Fusco, W. Hempstead, NY with a 1,405. High series of the tournament was shot by Matt Schultz, New Hyde Park, NY with a 763.

ALEX PADMORE WINS HANDICAP TITLE - JUSTIN KAMPF TAKES SCRATCH TITLE

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its 4th event of its 12 tournament House Shot Series at AMF E. Meadow. The handicap champion was Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY earning $1,000. This was Alex’s 4th LIGBT title and first since 2015! The scratch winner was Justin Kampf, Levittown, NY earning $500. Justin is also a multi-title holder.

In the final handicap shootout, where the top two from both age divisions combined for a 1-game shootout, it was a back-and-forth match between 2 out of the 4 finalists; Romie Caiaccio, Wantagh, NY and Alex. Alex qualified from the senior division with 1201 five-game series. Romie qualified for the shootout from the 49 & under division with a 1246 series.

The champion started out strong with 4 strikes in a row but followed that with 4 consecutive opens. Romie, who was getting the most handicap in the shootout, took a short lead in the 6th frame, lost it in the 7th frame, got it back in the 8th frame and lost it for good with an open in the 9th frame. Both bowlers marked in the 10th giving Alex a 6-pin victory 238-232. Finishing in 3rd place, earning $300 was Jason Epps, Jamaica, NY with a 195. Rounding out the top 4 was Jay Cureton, Richmond Hill, NY with a 151 worth $250.   

The scratch event was won by Justin Kampf with a 5-game total of 1218 (243 average.) Justin earned $500 for his scratch victory. Finishing in 2nd place was Guy Sereno, Massapequa, NY with an 1191 worth $250. Rounding out the top 3, and earning $150, was Quan Jacob, Bronx, NY with an 1155 series. A total of 5 bowlers cashed in the scratch prize list which paid out $1,140.

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #4 at AMF E. Meadow drew a field of 78 entries, paid out $4,685 in prize money, and had 20 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $3,900 bringing the total day’s payout to $8,585. Scores to cash on the Wall Street pattern were 1168 in the 49 & under handicap division, 1144 in the senior handicap division, and 1107 in the scratch event. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Al Johnson, Jamaica, NY.
