SEASON 4 FEATURES MANY DIFFERENT WINNERS

The LIGBT has run 20 events in Season 4 (as of June 11) and there are only two repeat winners: Tony Gee, who won both events at Syosset, and Glenn Simpson who won two events earlier in the season. This means we have 18 different champions so far this year!

Bill Verni, who won the $3,000 top prize at the Memorial Day tournament at AMF Babylon, is the leading money winner with $3,220. Tony Gee, Maniram Basdeo, and Hee Jin Jun each have won more than $2,000. More than 20 bowlers have earned at least $1,000 so far this season.

The most consistent casher in Season 4 so far is Maniram Basdeo who has cashed in 15 out of 18 events he’s bowled- an amazing 83%! Courtney Harris is also having an impressive season with a cashing ratio of 73% (11 out of 15). In third place is Donnel Matheson who is cashing at a rate of 69% (9 out of 13). There are a total of 10 bowlers in the club that have cashed more than 50% of the time.

TONY GEE WINS SECOND TITLE AT AMF SYOSSET

Syosset, NY: LIGBT’s first summer tournament was held at AMF Syosset and when all the pins had stopped falling Tony Gee, Floral Park, NY emerged victorious with a $1,000 pay day. This was Tony’s second LIGBT title and both have come at AMF Syosset.

Tony won the title by defeating second place finisher Tom Grunwald, Astoria, NY 269-258 in the final shootout. Tom earned $500 for his runner-up position. Finishing third was Carlos Nieves, New York, NY who shot a 233 worth $250.

Scoring was quite high considering a 40 foot sport shot was put down. The first squad leader was Carlos Nieves who rolled a 778 series to earn a seed directly into the final shootout. The 3pm squad leader was Gene Zohlmann, N. Babylon, NY with an 851 which gave him 1 bye in the finals. The wild card winner, which goes to the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was won by Tom Piazza, Roslyn Heights, NY with a 1463 series.

The AMF Syosset tournament drew a crowd of 81 entries. A total of 18 bowlers advanced to the finals and shared in a $3,030 prize fund.
