JORDAN OCKIMEY & JIMMY HARRIS DOUBLES CHAMPIONS AT AMF WANTAGH

 Wantagh, NY:  The LIGBT visited AMF Wantagh for a Handicap Doubles tournament. The winning team of the 4-game event was Jordan Ockimey, Amityville, NY and Jimmy Harris, Seaford, NY shooting a 2,170 series worth $2,000.  Finishing in 2nd place, 51 pins behind, was the team of Joe Scianna, Long Island, NY and Nick Falsetta, N. Babylon, NY with a 2,119 series worth $1,000.     

In third place, was the team of Leslie Farrell, Flushing, NY and Gregory Welch, Brooklyn, NY with a 2,098 series worth $800. Rounding out the top 4 was the team of Paul Verderosa, Massapequa, NY and Jimmy Harris with a 2,086 total worth $700.

A separate $20 optional singles event was won by Jimmy Harris with an 1,121 series worth $300. Finishing in 2nd was Joe Scianna with a 1,081 total earning $180. Rounding out the top 3 was Nick Falsetta with a 1,038 series worth $100. A total of 49 entries paid the $20 singles entry fee generating a 12-person $980 prize list.

The Sunday doubles house shot event drew a record field of 146 teams, with 24 teams cashing in the 10,880-prize fund. The side action paid out an additional $4,955 bringing the day’s total payout to $15,835. The team cut score to cash on the house shot pattern was 1,943. The Brunswick ball and Turbo triple roller raffle winners were Donald Eubanks, Devon Johnson, and Karen Carpinelli. The LIGBT welcomed 7 new members at AMF Wantagh.

LIGBT’s next event is a 2-day house shot major at AMF E. Meadow on Friday, August 29th and Sunday, August 31st. The LIGBT is sponsored by Brunswick, Randi B. Siegel Law Offices, Many Styles of Bowling, and Turbo Grips.

SHAWN CUMMINGS WINS HIS 1ST LIGBT TITLE!

 Garden City, NY: The LIGBT ran Sport Shot Series #11 at AMF Garden City on Sunday featuring the “Beaten Path” pattern. Shawn Cummings, Middle Village, NY won his first LIGBT title, and the $1,000 top prize, by defeating Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY 238-222. Andrew, who earned a bye as the noon squad leader, earned $550 for 2nd place.  Finishing 3rd was Glenn Buchanan, New York, NY with a 214 worth $325. Rounding out the top 4 was Nas Freeman, Cambria Heights, NY with a 188 worth $250.

The final shootout was a very tight contest throughout the ten frames. Shawn took an early lead with a triple. Andrew rebounded after 2 early opens with a 4 timer and went to the 10th frame needing a double to win his 10th title. Andrew threw the first strike but missed the head pin on his double attempt and finished 2nd. Glenn bowled well, and had a chance to win in the 10th, but his 4th open dropped him to third place. Nas couldn’t find a good line to the pocket and had 3 splits and didn’t strike until the 10th frame.  

The final sport shot event of the season offered a “bonus” prize fund to all bowlers competing in 6 or more sport shot series events. A total of 43 bowlers qualified for the bonus with Dan May, Amityville, NY winning the $1,000 top prize with a 715 series. Finishing in 2nd was Rich Hengel, E. Meadow, NY with a 689 worth $500. Rounding out the top 3 was Andrew Mienkiewicz with a 686 worth $250. A total of 10 bowlers cashed in the $2,585 extra prize fund.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a great crowd of 119 entries, paid out $5,780 in prize money, and had 31 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $3,780 bringing the total event payout to $9,560.  

Scores to cash on the “Beaten Path” pattern was 663 at noon and 648 at 2pm. The wildcard winner was Nas Freeman with a 1,307 six-game series. High series of the day was shot by Rich Hengel with a 722 series in the 2pm squad.  One woman and one super senior (65+) were added to the finals; Stephanie Pidala, Maspeth, NY shot a 647 and was the top female. Devon Johnson, Brooklyn, NY shot 675 and advanced to meet the 1 in 8 super senior guarantee.

ANTHONY MERROW WINS HANDICAP MITHRANDIR LOUTAN WINS SCRATCH

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT ran its 9th modified house shot series event of Season 17 and crowned 2 champions.  Anthony Merrow, E. Meadow, NY, a 19-year-old right-hander, won his first LIGBT title by winning the handicap event. “Mith” Loutan, Rosedale, NY a 17-year-old won the scratch title, worth $500 (SMART scholarship.)    

Anthony qualified first in the 49 & under handicap division with a 1,068 series to advance to the shootout. Also advancing from the 49 & under group was Guy Sereno, Massapequa, NY shooting a 1,059 4-game block. The 2 senior advancers were Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY with a 1,079 series and Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY with a 1,071 series.

The handicap final shootout was dominated by Anthony who threw 9 strikes out of his first 10 shots. Anthony finished with a 291 handicap game to secure the $1,000 top prize. The real competition was for 2nd with Guy and Darcy tied going into the 10th. Darcy went first and threw a double and 7 which meant Guy needed a double and 8 to win. Guy confidently threw all 3 strikes in the 10th to finish 2nd with a 255 worth $550. Darcy took home $300 for 3rd with a 252. Rounding out the top 4 was Max with a 209 worth $250.  

Mithrandir won the scratch event by shooting a fine 1,037 four-game total worth $500. Finishing in 2nd place, 30 pins behind “Mith”, was Max Thomas with a 1,007 worth $250. Rounding out the top 3 was Guy Sereno with a 963 worth $125. The scratch event drew 19 entries and paid out a 5-person prize list totaling $1,080.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #9 drew a nice summer field of 89 entries, paid out $5,220 in prize money, and had 23 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $3,130 bringing the day’s total payout to $8,350. Scores to cash were 1,006 in the 49 & under handicap division, 998 in the senior handicap division, and 932 in the scratch event. There were 21 super senior (65+) entries with 5 cashing. Two perfect games were bowled at AMF E. Meadow; Mith Loutan and Guy Sereno. The winners of the raffle were Doug Roszkowski who won the Brunswick ball and Gregory Welch who won the Turbo triple roller.
