KEN SIMPSON WINS HIS SECOND LIGBT TITLE WITH A CLUTCH PERFORMANCE

East Meadow, NY:  Ken Simpson, Shirley, NY won his second LIGBT title by making some clutch shots late in the final shootout. Ken, who was trailing Maniram Basdeo by 18 pins in the 8th frame, converted the 6-7 split in frame 8 and then doubled in the final two frames to win the match. Ken finished with a 240 handicap game to win the $1,000 top prize. Maniram, who resides in the Bronx, finished second with a 227 handicap game worth $500. Third place went to Bobby Wunsch, E. Meadow, NY with a 189 worth $300.

The AMF East Meadow tournament drew an incredible summer crowd of 140 bowlers. Kegel’s 41 foot “Turnpike” pattern was put down and the scores were moderate all day. The cut score in the in the 1pm squad was 693 and 694 at 3pm. High handicap series went to Fred Jankowsky, Brooklyn, NY with a 780.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a 3-day major event Labor Day Weekend at AMF Babylon. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $3,000 & $1,500. FERMIN DIAZ WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Rockville Centre, NY:  Fermin Diaz, who resides in New York City, earned his first LIGBT title after two years of competing in the LIGBT. Fermin shot a 274 handicap game to defeat Rob Foerster, Huntington, NY by 32 pins (242-$500) and David Cincotta, N. Babylon, NY by 32 pins (222-$250). All 3 shootout finalists were looking to win their first LIGBT title.

The final shootout was a high scoring affair as all three bowlers stayed clean early and all had a triple by the 7th frame. Fermin had the longest string of strikes with 5 and never opened securing his victory by the 8th frame. The end of the shootout was a fight for second with Rob coming out ahead due to David opening in the last 3 out of 4 frames.

This was the first time the LIGBT visited Rockville Centre Lanes and a good summer crowd of 95 entries competed. The shot for the tournament was the 2009 USBC Open Championship pattern (40 feet) and scoring was high for both squads. The cut score in the in the 1pm squad was 717, and in the 3pm squad 729. There were 3 big handicap series; 801 by Dennis Freeman, Glendale, NY, 800 by Rob Foerster, and 799 by junior bowler Brandon Soedarmasto, Levittown, NY.  

LIGBT’s next tournament is Sunday, August 25th at AMF East Meadow. This will be a regular 2-squad handicap singles event with top prizes guaranteed at $1,000 & $500.
