Posted On: June 26, 2023

Champion Jenny Oh & Husband

East Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran Sport Shot Series #10 at AMF E. Meadow and crowned another first-time champion. Jenny Oh, Plainview, NY won her first LIGBT title by defeating Eddie Walker, Washington, D.C. 254-229 in the final shootout. Jenny earned $1,000 while Eddie took home $700 for his runner-up position. Finishing in third place was Dexter Wharton, Brooklyn, NY with a 207 worth $500. Rounding out the top 4 was Kevin Myree, Brooklyn, NY with a 191 worth $400.

Jenny’s title run began in the 1pm squad when she qualified with a 686 series. After 2 final rounds Jenny advanced to the shootout where she dominated. Even though she was getting the most handicap she bowled the highest scratch game (175.) That is the formula for a winning.

With Jenny dominating the shootout the other 3 bowlers were shooting for 2nd place by the 5th frame. Amazingly, Eddie came in 2nd even though it took him until the 10th frame to convert his first spare. His triple early in the match helped him finish 2nd. Dexter bowled well but couldn’t string any strikes and finished in third. Kevin started well with 6 marks but he opened 3 out of his last 4 frames to finish 4th.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew an amazing crowd of 127 entries, paid out $6,410 in prize money, and had 33 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $5,030 bringing the total event payout to $11,440.

Scores to cash on the 40 foot “Highway to Hell” pattern were 657 at 1pm and 635 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Archie Nabas, Queens Village, NY with a 1,338. High series of the tournament was shot by Eddie Walker with a 736 in the first squad.

LIGBT’s next tournament is our 2-day annual Firecracker Classic at AMF E. Meadow Friday, Jen 30th and Sunday, July 2nd. This is a 4-squad house shot event featuring a $2,000 top prize. The Garden City sport shot event was a very low scoring event as the “Turnpike” pattern proved to be a challenge for everyone. Ryon’s title run started in the 1pm squad with a 669. In the shootout Ryon had two doubles in the first 6 frames giving him a lead that was never relinquished. Kenny started with 3 strikes in his first 4 frames but never struck again forcing him to settle for 2nd place. Nick started out strong with 3 strikes in his first 4 frames but 3 late opens hurt his title chances. Jimmy and Sunny bowled well but had too many opens and not enough strikes to challenge Ryon.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew an incredible crowd of 134 entries, paid out $6,610 in prize money, and had 34 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $7,215 bringing the total event payout to $13,825.
