JAMES MARINO, ALLEN JOHNSON, AND ARCHIE NABAS AMF E. MEADOW HOUSE SHOT CHAMPIONS

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 4-game house shot tournament featuring 3 different prize funds. The winner of the 49 & under handicap event was James Marino, Lindenhurst, NY.   The winner of the 50 & over handicap tournament was Allen Johnson, Jamaica, NY. The scratch champion was Archie Nabas, Queens Village, NY.

James’ road to the 49 & under title started with a 4-game qualifying series of 1009. The top 4 advanced to a 1-game handicap shootout with James defeating 2nd place finisher Nick Rini, Wantagh, NY 275-241. James earned $400 while Nick earned $250. Finishing in 3rd was the squad leader Damian Walsh, Mastic, NY with a 238. Damian also earned $250 since he was the squad leader and was guaranteed 2nd place money. Rounding out the top 4 was Harry Park, Flushing, NY with a 200 worth $170.

Al’s road to the senior title started with a 4-game qualifying series of 1066. In the final shootout Al defeated Lenny Tortorici, Flushing, NY 256-226. Al earned $500 while Lenny took home $300. Finishing in 3rd place with a 219 was Eddie Cintron, Laurelton, NY worth $250. Rounding out the top 4 was the senior squad leader Archie Nabas, Queens Village, NY with a 217. Archie also earned $300 as he was guaranteed no less than 2nd place money.

The scratch event was won by Archie Nabas with an 1104 series worth $330. Finishing in 2nd place was Nick Rini with a 982 worth $200. Both Archie and Nick bowled perfect games in qualifying.

The LIGBT house shot event at AMF E. Meadow drew a field of 56 entries, paid out $3,425 in prize money, and had 15 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $2,155 bringing the total event payout to $5,580. The cut scores to cash on the house shot were 966 in the under division, 962 in the senior division, and 982 in the scratch event.

MARK FERRARA AND NICK ANSELMI DOUBLES CHAMPIONS AT AMF GARDEN CITY

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a Doubles Tournament at AMF Garden City Father’s Day weekend. The winning doubles team, with a 4-game total of 2,062 worth $1,500, were first time champions Mark Ferrara, Farmingdale, NY and Nick Anselmi, Lindenhurst, NY. Finishing in 2nd place with a 1,984 total, and earning $1,000, were partners Marvin Silva and DJ Mateo, both from Franklin Square, NY. Rounding out the top 3 was the doubles team of Brian Becktold, Glen Cove, NY and Charlie Rembert, Floral Park, NY with a 1954 series worth $700.

The AMF Garden City doubles event attracted 53 teams and paid out a prize fund of $5,190. Nine teams cashed, for a minimum of $200, with 1,914 the cashing score. The side action paid out an additional $2,695. Total payout for the day was $7,885.

The LIGBT’s next event is special house shot event at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, June 26th. This event will feature 3 separate events and a 1 in 4 cashing ratio. RYON LEE WINS LIGBT SPORT SHOT TITLE

New Hyde Park, NY:   Ryon Lee, a 28-year-old 2-handed bowler from Holbrook, NY, won LIGBT’s latest sport shot tournament at Herrill Lanes. Ryon won the $1,000 top prize by defeating 2nd place finisher Piage Sztabnik, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 285-230. While Paige earned $600 for her runner-up position, finishing in third place, with a 229, was Gabe Elie-Pierre, New York, NY earning $400. Rounding out the top 4 was Andre McDuffie, Floral Park, NY with a 206 earning him $300.

The final shootout was dominated early with Ryon striking in his first 5 out of 6 frames. Gabe stayed close, and when Ryon opened in the 7th frame while Gabe doubled, the lead was cut to 6 pins. But Gabe’s 9th frame open, and Ryon’s 5 bagger to finish the game, sealed Ryon’s second LIGBT title. Paige stayed in the match and managed to grab 2nd place when she doubled in the 9th and 10th frames. Andre started with a double and finished with 3 spares but 5 consecutive opens in the middle of his game clinched his fourth-place finish.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a wonderful crowd of 103 entries, paid out $5,160 in prize money, and had 26 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $4,900 bringing the total event payout to $10,060. Cut scores to cash on the 40-foot Sunset Strip pattern were 670 at 1pm and 669 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Joe Angelone, Massapequa, NY with a 1343.
