DAVID CINCOTTA THANKGIVING MAJOR CHAMPION

New Hyde Park, NY:   The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its annual 2-day Thanksgiving Major which was won by David Cincotta, N. Babylon, NY. David won the $1,500 top prize by defeating Tom Catalano, N. Babylon, NY 253-248 in the final shootout. While Tom earned $900 for 2nd place, finishing in third, with a 227 worth $600, was Ken Bruce, Oceanside, NY. Rounding out the top 4 was Jae Yi, Flushing, NY with a 223 earning him $500.

The final shootout was exciting as the champion not decided until the final frame. None of the 4 bowlers took command early but by the end they all loosened up and started striking. Tom, who was giving everyone handicap, was the only bowler without an open frame. David tripled in frames 7-9 to grab the lead. Tom, who struck out from the 8th frame on, forced David to mark in the 10th to secure his victory. David calmly converted a 1-pin spare to claim his 2nd LIGBT singles title. 

The LIGBT Thanksgiving Major was a success with 157 entries generating a $7,880 prize fund. A total of 42 bowlers went to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $7,885 bringing the total event payout to $15,765.

Scores to cash on the 40 foot “Sunset Strip” pattern ranged from 661-687. The 4 squad leaders, each earning byes were: Alex Padmore (721), Curtis Hetmeyer (710), Matt Schultz (832), and Ralph Devarti (723.) The wildcard winners were: Andre McDuffie (1299), Dexter Sapp (1292), and Ken Bruce (1373.)

NICK FALSETTA & ANTHONY BARKER DOUBLES CHAMPIONS AT AMF WANTAGH

Wantagh, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a Doubles Tournament at AMF Wantagh and crowned 2 first time champions. The winning doubles team, with a 4-game total of 2,053 worth $1,600, was Nick Falsetta, N. Babylon, NY and Anthony Barker, W. Babylon, NY. Finishing in 2nd place with a 1,981 total, and earning $900, were partners Leon C. Kessee, Hempstead, NY and Jordan Ockimey, Amityville, NY. Rounding out the top 3 was the doubles team of Connor and Ken Milton, Bayshore, NY with a 1914 series worth $650.

The AMF Wantagh doubles event attracted 48 teams and paid out a prize fund of $4,800. Eight teams cashed, for a minimum of $200, with 1,877 the cashing score. The side action paid out an additional $2,075. Total payout for the day was $6,875.

The LIGBT welcomed 10 new members at AMF Wantagh. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Lori Cummings. Timmy Smith Jr. shot the high scratch game of the event with a 299.

The LIGBT’s next event is our annual Thanksgiving Major. This 2-day event is being hosted by Herrill Lanes and will run Saturday and Sunday, November 26 & 27 (squads at noon & 2pm.) STEVEN KELLY WINS HANDICAP TITLE TOM CATALANO TAKES SCRATCH TITLE

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its 3rd event of its 12 tournament House Shot Series at AMF E. Meadow. The handicap champion was Steven Kelly, Islip, NY earning $1,000. This was Steve’s 3rd LIGBT title and first since 2017! The scratch winner was Tom Catalano, N. Babylon, NY earning $370. Tom visited the cashing window multiple times earning a total of $860 not including bracket winnings.

In the final handicap shootout, where the top two from both age divisions combined for a 1-game shootout, it came down to the last frame between Steve Kelly and Mitch Benov, Seaford, NY. Mitch had a 2-pin lead going into the 10th but Steve had a strike in the 9th frame to control his destiny. Mitch struck first but Steve followed with a doubled sealing his victory. The final score was 242-236 with Mitch earning $500 for 2nd. Finishing in third, with a 195, was Tom Catalano earning $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Ray Brooks, S. Ozone Park, NY with a 158 worth $250.  

The scratch event, which paid out a prize fund based on the best 4 out of 5 games, was won by Tom Catalano with a 4-game total of 1052 (263 average.) Tom earned $370 for his scratch victory. Finishing in 2nd place was Charles Ko, Palisades, NJ with a 1016 worth $200. Rounding out the top 3, and earning $150, was Guy Sereno, W. Hempstead, NY with a 974 series. A total of 3 bowlers cashed in the scratch prize list which paid out $720.

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #3 at AMF E. Meadow drew a field of 74 entries, paid out $4,455 in prize money, and had 18 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $2,720 bringing the total day’s payout to $7,175. Scores to cash on the High Street pattern were 988 in the 49 & under handicap division, 944 in the senior handicap division, and 974 in the scratch event. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Mark Ferrara, Farmingdale, NY.
