JOHN LIM & SIMON CHUN DOUBLES CHAMPIONS AT AMF E. MEADOW

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT ran a Summer Handicap Doubles tournament at AMF E. Meadow and crowned 2 new champions. The winning doubles team was John Lim, Whitestone, NY and Simon Chun, Flushing, NY shooting a 2,016 four-game series to earn the $2,000 top prize. Their victory was the first time each won an LIGBT event.

Finishing in 2nd place, just 7 pins behind with a 2,009 total, was the team of Darcy Monroe, East Meadow, NY and Katie Lamac-Lavoie, Seaford, NY earning the $1,000 runner-up prize. In third place was the team of Rico Lirio, Farmingdale, NY and Frank Corallo, Blackwood, NJ with a 4-game total of 1,991 worth $700. There was a tie for 4th and 5th place with 1,963, shot by Eric Kwon, Flushing, NY and Simon Chun, Flushing, NY and Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY and Katie Lamac-Lavoie. Both teams earned $480.

The doubles event drew a wonderful field of 93 teams, with 15 teams cashing in the $7,360 prize fund. The side action paid out an additional $5,195 bringing the total day’s payout to $12,555. The LIGBT welcomed 8 new members at AMF E. Meadow. The cut score to cash on the house shot pattern was 1,887.

LIGBT’s next event is Sport Shot Series #12 at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, August 4th (1pm & 3pm.) This is a 2-squad event featuring 3-game qualifying and an elimination final. The LIGBT is sponsored by Randi B. Siegel Law Offices and Turbo Grips with all final shootouts streamed on W.O.N. Television.

MATT CUMMINGS WINS HANDICAP TITLE NICK FALSETTA TAKES SCRATCH TITLE

Wantagh, NY: The LIGBT ran House Shot Series #10 at AMF Wantagh on Sunday and crowned 2 young champions.  Matt Cummings, Middle Village, NY, just 17 years old, won his 1st title and took home the $1,000 top prize in the handicap event. Nick Falsetta, a 21-year-old right-hander from N. Babylon, NY, won the scratch title worth $500.

The handicap final shootout was very close as 3 pins separated the top 3 with just 3 frames to go. Matt, who shot the high handicap qualifying series of the day with a 1,032, threw 5 strikes in a row in his last 3 frames to lock up his first title with a fine 269. Finishing in 2nd place was Michael Dixon, W. Islip, NY with a 237 worth $550. The third spot was taken by senior Eddie Cintron, Laurelton, NY with a 235 worth $350. Rounding out the top 4 was senior bowler Maggie Joseph, Bay Shore, NY with a 218 worth $250.   

Nick won the scratch event by shooting a 4-game total of 958. Finishing in 2nd place was Chris Modugno, Smithtown, NY with an 896 worth $250. Rounding out the top 3 in scratch was Weldon Drayton Jr., Brentwood, NY with an 890 earning him a $150. The scratch event drew 20 entries and paid out a 5-person prize list totaling $1,150.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #10 drew a field of 82 entries, paid out $4,885 in prize money, and had 20 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $2,630 bringing the day’s payout to $7,515. Scores to cash were 911 in the 49 & under handicap division, 897 in the senior handicap division, and 873 in the scratch event.

SUN KIM WINS FIRECRACKER CLASSIC!

Meadow, NY: Sun Kim, a 60-year-old sushi chef from Hicksville, NY won the LIGBT Firecracker Classic at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday. Sun won his 5th LIGBT title by defeating Tom Mullahey, Wantagh, NY 272-247 in the final shootout. Sun earned $2,000 for his victory while Tom won $1,000 as the runner-up. Finishing in third place, with a 227, was Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY earning $600. Rounding out the top 4 was Marc Miller, Merrick, NY with a 222 worth $400.

Sun started his title run on Friday night by leading the 9pm squad with a 727 series. Sun was dominating in the finals with a 2nd round game of 259 and a 3rd round game of 240. In the final shootout Sun was the only bowler to shoot a “clean” game giving him a 25-pin victory.

The LIGBT Firecracker Classic attracted a wonderful crowd of 220 entries generating a $10,920 prize fund paid that was paid out to 57 cashers. The side action awarded an additional $9,745 bringing the total event payout to $20,655. Scores to cash on the “Turnpike” pattern were competitive ranging from a low of 636 in the Friday, 7pm squad and a high of 666 in the Sunday noon squad. The wildcard winners, top 6-game series by non-finalists, were Joe Angelone, Massapequa, NY on Friday night shooting a 1,312 series and Kenny Bruce, Oceanside, NY on Sunday shooting a 1,328 series.
