JENNIFER BOCHICCHIO WINS HER FIRST LIGBT TITLE

New Hyde Park, NY:   The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its second Sport Shot Series event at Herrill Lanes. Jennifer Bochicchio, Selden, NY won the $1,000 top prize by defeating 2nd place finisher Glenn Swirson, Syosset, NY 225-206 earning $500. This was Jenn’s first title since joining the LIGBT 7 years ago! Finishing in third place was Jenn’s beau, Bill Verni, W. Babylon, NY with a 188 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Nick Vacarro, Floral Park, NY with a 159 worth $275.

Jenn’s road to her first title started in the noon squad where she qualified with a 694. In the finals Jenn shot 220 in Round 1 to advance and 221 in Round 2 to get to the shootout. Jenn was getting the most handicap in the shootout and grabbed the early lead with 5 straight marks. But when she opened her next 3 out of 4 frames Glenn was back in the match. Jenn quickly halted Glenn’s title hopes by doubling in the final frame to lock up the title.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a nice Halloween weekend crowd of 82 entries, paid out $4,315 in prize money, and had 21 bowlers go to the cashing window. All finalists earned $150 and Round 2 advancers earned $250. The side action awarded an additional $2,620 bringing the total event payout to $6,935.

Scores to cash on the 42 foot “Autobahn” pattern were 664 at noon and 669 at 2pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Tyger Folmar, with a 1,379. High series of the tournament was shot by Lenny Tortorici with a 795 at 2pm.

4 LIGBT REGULARS TEAM UP TO WIN QUAD EVENT

Elmont, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a Quad team tournament at a first-time host; Dani’s Strike Zone. The winning team, with a 4-game total of 3,611 worth $2,000, was Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY, Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY, Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY, and Chris Thomas, Brooklyn, NY. All 4 bowlers are LIGBT seasoned veterans with many titles.

The energy inside Dani’s Strike Zone was tremendous the entire day. Finishing in 2nd place with a 3,596 total, and earning $1,400, was the team of Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY, Phil Rivera, Franklin Square, NY, Glenn Swirson, Syosset, NY and Dexter Sapp, Valley Stream, NY. Rounding out the top 3 was the team of Brian Becktold, Glen Cove, NY, Brandon Butler, Jamaica, NY, Jessica Del Valle, Bronx, NY and Dennis Knox, Brooklyn, NY. The third-place finishers shot a 3,594 and earned $800.

The singles champion was Danny Yi, Englewood, NJ with a 1024 series worth $400. Finishing in second place was Dexter Sapp with a 999 worth $300. Rounding out the top 3 in singles was Jessica Del Valle with a 983 worth $200. A total of 6 bowlers cashed in the $1,150 singles prize list. The cashing score was 946.

LIGBT’s first trip to Dani’ Strike Zone was successful. A total of 15 teams competed for a $4,200 prize fund. With the singles event prize fund, a total of $5,350 was paid out. The side action was strong and paid an additional $3,595 bringing the day’s total payout to $8,945. Jessica Del Valle won the Storm ball raffle.

DARIUS FULLER WINS $1,500 AT AMF E. MEADOW

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its 2nd event of its 12 tournament House Shot Series at AMF E. Meadow. Darius Fuller, Bay Shore, NY won both the scratch and handicap events earning a total of $1,500 and his first, of what should be many, LIGBT titles. At 21 years old, Darius is one of the youngest champions in LIGBT history!

In the final handicap shootout, where the top two from the 49 and under and senior divisions combine to bowl a 1-game match, Darius defeated 2nd place finisher Billy Oh, Plainview, NY 220-207 to earn the $1,000 top prize. While Billy earned $500 as the runner-up, finishing in third place was Phil Rivera, Franklin Square, NY with a 205 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Dave Brunson, Seaford, NY with a 202 earning him $250. All 4 shootout participants were looking for their first LIGBT singles title.

The scratch event, which paid out a prize fund based on the 5-game series, was won by Darius Fuller with a 5-game total of 1137 (227 average.) Darius earned $500 for his scratch victory. Finishing in 2nd place was senior bowler Jose Perez, E. Elmhurst, NY with an 1110 worth $250. Rounding out the top 3, and earning $150, was Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow NY with an 1102 series. A total of 5 bowlers cashed in the scratch prize list which paid out $1,140.

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #2 at AMF E. Meadow drew a field of 74 entries, paid out $4,515 in prize money, and had 19 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $2,570 bringing the total day’s payout to $7,085. Scores to cash on the Easy Street pattern were 1044 in the 49 & under handicap division, 1078 in the senior handicap division, and 1084 in the scratch event.

JIMMIE LUVERT, AVI PERSAUD, & KIM SWANSON RVC TRIO CHAMPIONS

Rockville Centre, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a Trio’s Handicap Challenge at Rockville Centre Lanes. The winning team, with a 4-game total of 2,920 worth $2,100, was Jimmie Luvert, Freeport, NY, Avi Persaud, S. Ozone Park, NY, and Kim Swanson, Farmingdale, NY. Finishing in 2nd place with a 2,827 total, and earning $1,200, was the team of Charles Ko, Palisades, NJ, Danny Yi, Engelwood, NJ, and Soojin Yi, Bayside, NY.

The LIGBT had not run an event at RVC Lanes in many years but it was great to return to this popular center. Finishing in third place with a 2813 worth $1,050 was the team of Dwight Dunkley, Brooklyn, NY, Beverly Parker, Brooklyn, NY and Gregory Welch, Brooklyn, NY. Rounding out the top 4 with a 2,802 total, and earning $900, was the team of Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY, Dexter Sapp, Valley Stream, NY, and Mike Simeone, Lindenhurst, NY.

In addition to the team event, a separate singles competition was offered. The singles champion was Dexter Sapp, Valley Stream, NY with a 998 four-game series worth $500. Finishing in 2nd was Calvin Nottingham, Deer Park, NY with a 991 series worth $350. Rounding out the top 3 was Tim Smith Jr., W. Islip, NY with a 990 worth $250. A total of 46 bowlers entered the optional singles which paid out a $1,600 prize fund to the top 8 bowlers. It took a 966 series to cash.

The Trio’s competition drew 23 teams generating a prize fund of $5,250. The side action paid out an additional $3,720 bringing the total payout, including the optional singles event, to $10,570.  

LIGBT’s next event is a house shot singles tournament at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, October 16th (1pm.) This 4-game event features 3 separate prize funds: scratch, handicap 49 & under, and handicap 50+. The LIGBT is sponsored by Storm, Billvee Electric, and CLS Custom Upholsterers.
