DAVE MARTORELLA WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Posted On: October 28, 2013

Wantagh, NY:  Dave Martorella, a 44 year old right hander from Meriden, CT, won his first LIGBT title at AMF Wantagh. Dave defeated 4 other shootout finalists to claim the $1,000 top prize and the LIGBT trophy. The final shootout was exciting as 3 out of the 5 bowlers had a shot at the title going into final frame.

Dave’s road to victory began by being the squad leader with a 727 in the 3pm squad earning him 1 bye in the finals. Dave entered the finals in Round 2 and advanced to the final shootout with a 222 handicap game which was the cut score. In the final shootout Dave marked in 9 out of 10 frames and finished with a 233 handicap game (199 scratch) 2 pins higher than his nearest competitor.

Dave actually won the title sitting on the bench. Kyle Lathen, Bronx, NY failed to double in the final frame which gave Dave the victory. Eddie Eng, Flushing, NY finished second with a 231, only 2 pins behind the winner, earning $500. Kyle, who finished in third place, won $250 with a 217 while Fred Wande, Bronx, NY earned $225 with a 214 finishing fourth. Rounding out the top 5 was So Young Chin, Whitestone, NY who earned $200 with a 177.

The AMF Wantagh tournament drew a good fall crowd of 77 bowlers. Kegel’s “Highway to Hell” pattern was used and the scoring was low all day. Eddie Eng led the first squad with a 738 series which was the high series of the day. The 1pm cut was 691 and the 3pm cut was 672.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a 2-squad regular event at AMF Plainview (squad times of 1pm & 3pm) Sunday, November 10th. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500. JOSE FERREIRA WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Posted On: October 21, 2013

New Hyde Park, NY:  Jose Ferreira, Woodside, NY, defeated 4 other shootout finalists at Herrill Lanes to claim the $1,000 top prize and the LIGBT trophy. The final shootout was exciting as 4 out of the 5 bowlers had a shot at the title going into the final 2 frames. Jose earned the victory with 3 strikes in the 9th/10th frames giving him a 253 handicap game, 13 pins higher than second place finisher Alex Padmore, Queens Village, NY.

The final shootout had many lead changes. Alex, who was getting the most handicap had the early lead with 5 consecutive marks to start the game. Alex finished second with a 240 worth $500. Tommy Grunwald, Astoria, NY took the lead midway with 6 out of 7 strikes but several opens in the late frames gave him a fourth place finish (224) worth $225. Scott Davidow, Bayside, NY came out of nowhere with a 4 timer in frames 6-9  briefly giving him the lead but settled for third with a 236 worth $250. Dennis Freeman, Glendale, NY struggled throughout the match and finished 5th with a 186 worth $200.

The Herrill Lanes tournament drew a good fall crowd of 76 bowlers. Erroneously the house shot was used for this event and scoring was ridiculously high. The 1pm cut was 764 and the 3pm cut was 794. High handicap series was shot by Tommy Grunwald and Scott McKenna, New Hyde Park, NY each with 839. Due to the error in lane pattern all averages and bonus pins were frozen for this event.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a 2-squad regular event at AMF Wantagh (squad times of 1pm & 3pm) Sunday, October 27th. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500. One in 5 each squad advances to the finals and will cash for at least $70. For complete results of the Herrill Lanes tournament please visit www.ligbtour.com. East Meadow, NY:  Jason Nicholas, Wantagh, NY won his first LIGBT title at AMF East Meadow by defeating three other shootout finalists all of whom were looking for their first LIGBT trophy. Jason rolled a wonderful 257 handicap game to defeat second place finisher Rich Perrotti, Levittown, NY by 20 pins earning him $600 with a 237. Rich had the lead for most of the match but couldn’t hold on at the end. Sal kept his championship hopes alive most of the match but a couple of unfortunate opens made him settle for a third place finish. Tony, who threw the ball great in the final game, could not catch any breaks, and bowled better than his 185 score.

The AMF East Meadow tournament drew a crowd of 68 bowlers. The tournament pattern was the 2011 USBC Open Championship condition which was 41 feet. High handicap series went to Tony Genova with a 734 which earned him a bye directly into the final shootout.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a 2-squad regular event at Herrill Lanes (squad times of 1pm & 3pm). Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500.
