Defending champions, Rich Ambrosino (scratch), Tim Regan (senior), and Alex Ware (handicap) are expected to return to defend their titles. The 2nd annual Sandy Catalano Open will feature a low prepaid entry fee of $60 ($65 walk-in.) There will be 4 squads of competition with 1 in 5 each squad advancing to the finals. All squad leaders are guaranteed 1 bye and the top series of the weekend are guaranteed into the final shootout. The scratch event will have two qualifying divisions; 49 & under/seniors and the last remaining senior in the finals is guaranteed a minimum of $500 and a spot into the shootout.

Sandy dedicated his entire life to his family, business, and bowling- especially coaching youth bowlers. To honor Sandy's accomplishments, both as a bowler and person, a tournament was born. The Sandy Catalano Open will be an annual event with proceeds donated to The Sandy Catalano Scholarship fund.

Tournament details of the Sandy Catalano Open will be released shortly and bowlers can sign up for the tournament via or by calling 1.877.900.6464. Adam Chase Commack Scratch Champion

February, 13 2011
Commack, NY:  The LIGBT visited AMF Commack and 103 bowlers packed the center for this one squad tournament. Emerging victorious in the scratch tournament was Adam Chase, of Seaford, NY and the handicap winner was Pete Smith, Commack, NY. A total of 24 bowlers cashed for the day which means better than 1 in 5 bowlers earned money.
Despite the fact the lanes were hooking good scoring took place. Leading the scratch event after the 4 games of qualifying was Brian Ziesig, Levittown, NY with a 975. Brian was coming off a recent victory at AMF Babylon and was looking for his second title in a row. The top senior was Perry Liberta, Dix Hills, NY who shot an 801 series.
The final shootout was a good match between Adam and Brian. After 5 frames Adam held a 10 pin lead but going into the tenth Brian could have won the title with three strikes. The first two shots were perfect but to everyone’s surprise, including Adams, Brian went high and left 4 pins standing. The final score was Adam 236 ($1,000) and Brian 233 ($500). Finishing third was John Katsaros, Bartonsville, PA who shot a 185 and earned $350.
The handicap qualifying had some great bowling. Pete Smith rolled a 733 scratch (784 handicap) to earn the top spot and a seed into the final match. The top 17 series advanced to the finals and the cut number was 711. In the finals there were 7 previous LIGBT champions.
The handicap shootout was a competition between 3 good players. Pete Smith, who recently moved from the scratch events, was making his first appearance in the final shootout as was Sean Teahan, Islip, NY. The third bowler was Chris Jove, Port Jefferson, NY who seems to always be in the final shootout. This time the finals experience didn’t matter as Pete and Sean finished first and second. Pete shot a 227 (213 scratch) to win his first title and the $500 top prize. Sean rolled a 196 (160 scratch) to earn $300 while Chris struggled with a 173 (146 scratch) to win $250.
The LIGBT’s next event is Sunday, February 27th and it’s a 2-squad handicap event at South Levittown. For more information on future LIGBT tournaments and complete results of the AMF Commack event please visit or call the tournament office at 1.877.900.6464.
