Garden City, NY: The LIGBT ran Sport Shot Series #7 at AMF Garden City on Sunday featuring the Turnpike pattern. Calvin Nottingham, a 74-year-old right-hander from Deer Park, NY won his third LIGBT title, and the $1,000 top prize, by defeating last week’s house shot champion, Nas Freeman, Cambria Heights, NY 231-207. Nas, who advanced to the finals as the wildcard winner, earned $500 for 2nd place. Finishing 3rd was a new member, Peter Tegano, Smithtown, NY with a 204 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Pak Wong, New York, NY with a 171 worth $250.
The final shootout had many open frames; 13 to be exact. Calvin won the title due to his ability to fill frames and finished with only one open. How tough was the pattern? The shootout had no doubles! With Calvin filling frames the battle wound up being for 2nd place. Nas marked his last 3 frames to jump past Peter who opened his last 3 frames. Pak, who usually is very steady, struggled the entire match.
