JAMES MARINELLI, SUN KIM, & SAM FARBER THANKSGIVING MAJOR CHAMPIONS!

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 3-event Thanksgiving weekend major at AMF Garden City and crowned 3 champions. The winner of the 49 & under handicap tournament was James Marinelli, S. Hempstead, NY. The winner of the senior handicap event was Sun Kim, Flushing, NY. The scratch champion was Sam Farber, Merrick, NY.

The 49 & under division champion, James Marinelli, earned the $1,000 top prize by qualifying with an 801 series in the Sunday, 11am squad. In the final shootout James defeated Nick Troy, Aquebogue, NY, 262-243 to grab his first LIGBT title. While Nick earned $675 for second, finishing in 3rd was Charlie Rembert, Floral Park, NY with a 230 worth $425. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher 15-year-old Nolan Herron, Fairfield, CT who earned a $300 scholarship with a 228 and 5th place finisher Carolyn Willis, Bethpage, NY who shot a 224 to earn $250.  

The 50 & over senior champion, Sun Kim, earned the $1,000 top prize by qualifying with a 743 series in the finals squad of the tournament. In the final shootout Sun defeated Curtis Hetmeyer, Brooklyn, NY 291-274 to grab his 4th LIGBT title in 6 years. While Curtis earned $675 for second, finishing in 3rd was Pak Wong, New York, NY with a 267 worth $450. Rounding out the top five was 4th place finisher Scott Teitler, Patchogue, NY with a 252 worth $350 and 5th went to Darryl McDuffie, Melville NY with a 243 worth $250.

The scratch champion, Sam Farber, earned the $700 top prize by qualifying with a 715 series in the Friday 10pm squad. In the final shootout Sam defeated Joshua Roca, New Hyde Park, NY 279-227 in a dominating performance. While Joshua earned $400 for second place, finishing in 3rd was Darryl McDuffie with a 223 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Jacob Gaddam, Modesto, CA with a 217 worth $250.  

The LIGBT Thanksgiving Major drew 254 total entries, cashed 70 spots, and had an event payout of $13,950 (with $1,500 added by the LIGBT.) The side action paid out an additional $10,500 bringing the total event payout to $24,450.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a sport shot event at AMF Wantagh on Sunday, December 5th. The LIGBT is sponsored by Storm, Kegel, Knockout Ball Cleaner, Torch Bowling, Billvee Electric, Vietri Associates, and ManyStylesOfBowling.com

SUN KIM WINS HALLOWEEN SPORT SHOT EVENT

E. Meadow, NY: Sun Kim, a 54-year-old sushi chef from Flushing, NY won LIGBT’s sport shot tournament at AMF E. Meadow. Sun won his 2nd LIGBT title by defeating Jong Bo Shim, Fresh Meadows, NY, 260-216 in the final shootout. Sun earned $1,000 for his victory while Jong Bo took home $500 for 2nd place. Finishing in third was Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY with a 212 worth $300 and fourth went to Monica McMillan, E. Elmhurst, NY with a 182 worth $250. 

The final shootout was dominated by Sun as he threw 5 strikes in a row starting in the third frame to take control of the match. The real competition was for 2nd place where Joe needed a double in the 10th frame to secure the runner-up position. But a stoned 10 pin gave Jong Bo second place and Joe settled for third. Monica, making her first TV finals, started with a strike but couldn’t fill frames and finished fourth.

The LIGBT 2-squad Halloween sport shot tournament drew a total of 47 entries, paid out $3,320 in prize money, and advanced 13 bowlers to the finals. Over $900 was added by the LIGBT to insure a solid prize fund. The side action awarded an additional $2,030 bringing the total event payout to $5,350. Cut scores to cash on the Kegel Broadway 37-foot pattern were 705 at 1pm and 673 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was shot by Maniram Basdeo, Bronx NY with a 1309.
