JOE SCIANNA WINS TITLE #11 IN A “SPECTACULAR” FINISH!

Deer Park, NY: The LIGBT visited Strike 10 Deer Park for a House Shot Spectacular and the final shootout lived up to the event’s name. Joe Scianna, Long Island, NY, finished with 6 strikes in a row to defeat Calvin Nottingham, Deer Park, NY 224-222. Joe earned the $1,500 top prize while Calvin took home $750. Finishing in 3rd was Rob Miller, Manorville, NY with a 214 earning $500. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Weldon Drayton Jr., Brentwood, NY with a 212 worth $400 and 5th went to Leon Kessee, Hempstead, NY with a 179 worth $300.

The 5-person final shootout had one of the best finishes in LIGBT history. Rob had the early lead by throwing a 5 timer in frames 3-7 but two late game splits open the door for Joe. Facing an incredible 60 pin deficit in the 6th frame Joe, who opened twice in his first 5 frames, when sheet to eek out the victory. Calvin could have locked out Joe with a double in the 10th frame but finished with a spare and second place. Weldon also had a shot at the title finishing with 6 strikes in his last 7 frames but failed to double in the 10th to put the pressure on Joe.

The LIGBT House Shot Spectacular held drew 110 entries generating a $6,490 prize fund. Strike 10 Deer Park and Coaches Corner added $1,000 to the prize fund. A total of 30 bowlers went to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $1,785 bringing the total event payout to $7,565. Donna Ryan, Smithtown, NY won the bowling ball raffle.

Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 685-708. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 648 to 674. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 675-696. The wildcard winners were Nick Falsetta, N. Babylon, NY (1,303), Rich Hengel, East Meadow, NY (1,368), and Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY (1,397)

LIGBT’s next tournament is a Handicap Doubles event at AMF E. Meadow, Sunday, December 1st (noon start.) JULIO ARNOLD RETURNS TO THE WINNER’S CIRCLE!

Garden City, NY: LIGBT ran Sport Shot Series #2 at AMF Garden City and saw Julio Arnold, Woodside, NY return to the winner’s circle after a 7-year hiatus. Julio won his 3rd LIGBT title, and the $1,000 top prize, by defeating 16-year-old Jaiden Ng, Syosset, NY 259-253. Jaiden earned a $500 SMART scholarship for second place. There was a tie for 3rd and 4th place with 16-year-old student Jake Lau, Albertson, NY and 78-year-old senior Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY both shooting 217 and each earning $275.

The final shootout was a close match as all 4 bowlers had a shot at the title going into the last few frames. Jaiden had the lead most of the game rolling 6 strikes in a row. Julio stayed close with a 4-timer going into the last frame. Jaiden needed a double in the final frame to overcome the 18-pin handicap advantage Julio had but a 7 count on his first ball gave Julio the victory. Jake and Alex had some late opens and finished in a tie for 3rd place.  

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 89 entries, paid out $4,570 in prize money, and had 24 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $3,215 bringing the total event payout to $6,985.  

Scores to cash on the Broadway pattern were 673 at noon and 662 at 2pm. The wildcard winner was Rich Hengel, East Meadow, NY with a 1,375 six-game series. High series of the day was shot by our 2nd place finisher Jaiden Ng with an 806 series in the noon squad. High woman of the day was Stephanie Pidala, Maspeth, NY with a 694 series which got her added to the finals.

KAREEM BYRD JR. WINS HANDICAP TITLE “MITH” LOUTAN TAKES SCRATCH TITLE

AMF Babylon, NY: The LIGBT ran its first house shot series event of Season 17 and crowned 2 first time champions.  The handicap title was won by Kareem Byrd Jr., Bay Shore, NY worth $1,000. The scratch title was won by 16-year-old Mithrandir Loutan, Rosedale, NY earning a $600 SMART scholarship.

The handicap final shootout was exciting as all 4 bowlers were within 10 pins of each other heading into frame #7. Kareem took control of the match with a 4-timer, starting in the 7th frame, to lock up a 12-pin victory with a 260. Sal Palazzola, Bayside, NY had a shot at the title right up to the final frame but settled for 2nd place with a 234 worth $550. Third place was taken by William Tudy, Brooklyn, NY with a 229 worth $350. Rounding out the top 4 was Sean Teahan, Islip, NY with a 227 worth $300.   

Mithrandir won the scratch event by shooting a perfect 300 game in the scratch final shootout earning a $600 SMART scholarship. Finishing in 2nd place was Michael Mirabile, Coram, NY with a 221 worth $300. Rounding out the top 3 in scratch was Sean Teahan with a 189 worth $200. The scratch event drew 28 entries and paid out a 7-person prize list totaling $1,620.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #1 drew a field of 98 entries, paid out $5,980 in prize money, and had 25 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $3,175 bringing the day’s total payout to $9,155. Scores to cash were 950 in the 49 & under handicap division, 914 in the senior handicap division, and 911 in the scratch event.
