TED PANAGACOS WINS HIS 1ST LIGBT TITLE!

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT ran Sport Shot Series #10 at AMF Garden City on Sunday featuring the “Winding Road” pattern. Ted Panagacos, Plainview, NY won his first LIGBT title, and the $1,000 top prize, by defeating Darryl Freeman, Forest Hills, NY 222-215. Darryl, who advanced to the finals as the wildcard winner, earned $500 for 2nd place.  Finishing 3rd was Eric Taylor Sr., Jamaica, NY with a 207 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Glenn Buchanan, New York, NY with a 169 worth $250.

The final shootout came down to the last frame with 3 of the bowlers needing a mark to win. Ted went first and converted a 1-pin spare to take the lead. Both Darryl and Eric needed a spare to jump Ted but both missed 1-pin spares to settle for 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Glenn, who had an early double, just couldn’t find the pocket and settled for 4th place.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a nice crowd of 90 entries, paid out $4,420 in prize money, and had 24 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $3,085 bringing the total event payout to $7,505.  

Scores to cash on the “Winding Road” pattern were 612 at noon and 623 at 2pm. The wildcard winner was Darryl Freeman with a 1,271 six-game series. High series of the day was shot by Dan May, Amityville, NY with a 693 series in the 2pm squad.  One woman made the finals; Karen Davis, Brooklyn, NY with a 666 series. Four super seniors (65+) advanced and earned a minimum of $150

MANIRAM BASDEO & PIERCE FIELD WIN TITLES AT AMF E. MEADOW

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT ran its 8th modified house shot series event of Season 17 and crowned 2 familiar champions. Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY won his 9th LIGBT title, worth $1,000 by winning the handicap event. Pierce Field, Shirley, NY won the scratch title, worth $500, for his 4th LIGBT title.  

Maniram shot a 1,030 total to advance from the senior division along with Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY who led the senior handicap division with a 1,043. Advancing to the shootout from the 49 & under handicap division was Kamaal Harkless, W. Hempstead, NY with a 1,079. Also advancing from the 49 & under group was a newcomer; Michael Carr, Astoria, NY with a 1,073 total.

The final shootout was an exciting contest as 3 bowlers went into the final 2 frames with a shot at the title. When Maniram spared in the 10th it forced Max to throw a triple to win by 1 pin. But a stubborn 10 pin on his first ball put Max in 2nd place with a 241 worth $600. Mike needed to strike out from his 8th frame on to win but he left a stoned 9 pin in the 9th frame and settled for third place worth $400. Kamaal, competing in his first shootout, bowled well but could not throw consecutive strikes and settled for 4th place with a 220 worth $300.

Pierce won the scratch event by shooting a fine 976 four-game total worth $500. Finishing in 2nd place, 25 pins behind Pierce, was Max Thomas with a 951 worth $300. Rounding out the top 3 was Brandon Hughes, W. Hempstead, NY with a 925 worth $200. The scratch event drew 21 entries and paid out a 5-person prize list totaling $1,260.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #8 drew an amazing summer field of 113 entries, paid out $6,760 in prize money, and had 28 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $3,600 bringing the day’s total payout to $10,360. Scores to cash were 989 in the 49 & under handicap division, 955 in the senior handicap division, and 876 in the scratch event. There were 27 super senior (65+) entries with 6 cashing. Three women also cashed in the 49 & under handicap division.

LIGBT’s next tournament is Sunday, July 20th (2 squads: noon & 2pm) and is Sport Shot Series #10 at AMF Garden City.  To view the results and final shootout video of the AMF E.
