ANDREW MIENKIEWICZ WINS $1,000 AT HERRILL LANES

New Hyde Park, NY:   The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, kicked off its new Sport Shot Series at Herrill Lanes. Andrew Mienkiewicz, a 39-year-old right-hander from Dix Hills, NY won his 5th LIGBT title worth $1,000. Andrew won his last LIGBT sport shot event 5-years ago also at Herrill Lanes.

Andrew’s title run started with a squad leading 771 series at noon that earned him a spot in the final shootout. In the final match Andrew defeated 2nd place finisher Eddie Eng, Flushing, NY 253-249 by doubling in the final frame. While Eddie earned $500 as the runner-up, finishing in third was Joe Evers, Islip Terrace, NY with a 232 worth $300. Finishing in 4th place was Paige Sztabnik, Cold Spring Harbor, NY with a 221 worth $250. Rounding out the top 5 was the 2pm squad leader (756) Mark Ferrara, Farmingdale, NY earning $200 with a 203.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 63 entries, paid out $3,330 in prize money, and had 17 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $2,590 bringing the total event payout to $5,920. Scores to cash on the 39-foot Middle Road pattern were 686 at noon and 692 at 2pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Paige Sztabnik with a 1,398.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a special Trio’s Challenge at RVC Lanes, Saturday, October 1st at 10am. Top prize will pay $3,000 with 30 teams and the entry fee is just $100 per bowler. JOE CERUZZI WINS $1,500 AT AMF E. MEADOW IN A RECORD-BREAKING PERFORMANCE

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, kicked off its new House Shot Series at AMF E. Meadow with a singles tournament featuring 3 separate prize lists. Joe Ceruzzi, Rye Brook, NY won both the scratch and handicap events in a record-breaking performance. Joe averaged an amazing 273 for six games earning a total of $1,500 and his first LIGBT title.

In the final handicap shootout, where the top 2 from the 49 and under and senior divisions combine to bowl a 1-game match, Joe defeated 2nd place finisher JoJo Alcantara, Flushing, NY 278-258 to earn the $1,000 top prize. While JoJo earned $500, finishing in third place was Carolyn Willis, Bethpage, NY with a 230 worth $350. Rounding out the top 4 was senior bowler Carmelo Carbonara, Beechhurst, NY with a 192 earning him $250. All 4 shootout participants were looking for their first LIGBT title.

The scratch event, which paid out a prize fund based on 5-game totals, Joe Ceruzzi dominated with an incredible 191 pin victory, and an amazing 877 for his first 3 games! Joe’s 5-game total was 1359 (272 average) worth $500 while his closest competitor, Darryl McDuffie, Floral Park, NY earned $300 with an 1168 series. Finishing in third place, and earning $250, was Rich Palumbo, Levittown, NY with an 1125 series.

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #1 at AMF E. Meadow drew a field of 92 entries, paid out $5,635 in prize money, and had 24 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $4,330 bringing the total day’s payout to $9,965. Scores to cash on the Stone Street pattern were 1134 in the under division, 1098 in the senior division, and 1104 in the scratch event.

JAE YI IS THE $2,000 LABOR DAY WEEKEND MAJOR CHAMPION!

Garden City, NY: Jae Yi, a 48-year-old custom broker from Flushing, NY won the LIGBT Labor Day Weekend Major, sponsored by Storm, at AMF Garden City. Jae, won his third LIGBT title by defeating Joe Ceruzzi, Rye Brook, NY 277-269 to earn the $2,000 top prize. While Joe earned $1,000 for second, finishing in third was Aimee Matias, Staten Island, NY with a 234 worth $600. Rounding out the top 5 was Joe Scianna, Ronkonkoma, NY who cashed in both 4th and 5th place as a dual finalist (senior and scratch) earning a total of $700.

The Labor Day Weekend Major final shootout was a great match. Aimee was getting the most handicap, 54 pins, while Jae was getting 40 pins. Both Joes were bowling scratch so they started behind. Joe Ceruzzi bowled an incredible 269 scratch but Jae threw 4 consecutive strikes starting in the 8th frame to grab the lead and never looked back. Aimee started the match slowly with 3 opens in her first 6 frames but finished strong to secure third. Joe Scianna started striking too late and had to settle for the last 2 spots.

The LIGBT Summer Major featured 3 different divisions; scratch, 49 & under handicap, 50 & over handicap. There were 5 qualifying squads for each event with 1 in 4 each squad cashing and 1 in 8 advancing to the finals and earning a minimum of $100. Each division had their own elimination finals with the remaining 2 from each handicap division, and the last remaining scratch bowler, combining to compete in a 1-game final shootout for the top prizes.

The LIGBT Summer Major drew a record-breaking crowd of 345 total entries (including the desperado), cashed 92 spots, and had an event payout of $13,735.  The side action paid out an additional $13,630 bringing the total event payout to $27,365. Cut scores on the house shot ranged from a high of 735 to a low of 665. Pierce Field, Shirley, NY shot the only perfect game of the tournament.
