Champion Tony Chin and son

January 29, 2012

Plainview, NY: For the first time in LIGBT history a bowler that was added to the finals because they were the highest 6-game bowler not to make the finals in either squad won the tournament. Tony Chin, Flushing, NY failed to make the finals in either squad but had the highest 6-game total by a non-finalist so he was added to the finals. He took full advantage of this bonus and went through 4 final rounds to win the $750 top prize. This was Tony’s second LIGBT title.

A record crowd of 146 bowlers crowded AMF Plainview to compete for over $5,000 in prize money. A total of 30 bowlers advanced to the finals which took 3 rounds to get to the final shootout. In the final shootout the scores were high as Tony Chin took the title, and the $750 top prize with a 289 handicap game. Finishing second was David Henderson, W. New York, NY who earned $400 with a 273 handicap game. Third place went to Joette Healey, Yonkers, NY who rolled a 260 handicap game to earn $300. Finishing fourth, and taking home $225 was Gary Schaffer, Lindenhurst, NY with a 257.
