East Meadow, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF East Meadow for a regular 2 squad tournament and a great crowd of 117 entries packed the bowling center. Kareem Atkins, Bronx, NY earned his first LIGBT trophy, and the $600 top prize, by defeating three other opponents in the final shootout. Kareem shot a 266 handicap game (190 scratch) to defeat second place finisher Drew Dioguardi, Bellmore, NY who shot a 256 handicap game (199 scratch) and earned $400.

The final shootout was undecided until the 10th frame. Drew, who was the 1pm squad leader with an incredible 833 handicap series, needed a mark in the tenth to secure his first title. But he missed a spare and Kareem won the title sitting on the bench. Finishing third was So Young Chin, the only previous champion in the final shootout, with a 230 which earned her $300 and fourth went to Eric Vecchi, Islip Terrace who earned $250 with a 220.

The East Meadow finals paid out $4,190 to 24 finalists. Scoring for the day was relatively high as it took 729 to make the finals in the second squad and 765 in the first squad. Kegel’s Beaten Path pattern was used. The LIGBT welcomed 12 new members at the tournament.
