Brian Zeisig, Champion

January 31, 2011
The LIGBT hosted its second 2-day major event of season 3 and it was a huge success. Over 270 bowlers packed AMF Babylon and when all of the pins had fallen two champions were crowned. The winner of the scratch event was Brian Ziesig and the winner of the handicap event was David Reed. Both earned their third LIGBT titles and $1,000 for their victories.
The PBA Cheetah pattern was used and qualifying scores were moderate. But when it came to the finals the scores went through the roof as the cut for each round was in the 240’s! In the final match there was only one 8 count (and that was a blow out 7-10 split). All the rest of the shots were either a strike or 9. Now that’s good bowling!
One of the reasons the high scoring was the quality of the finalists. Brian Ziesig, Levittown, NY, won the tournament, and its $1,000 top prize, with a 257. Brian needed a mark in the tenth to secure his third LIGBT title this season. Finishing second was left-hander Anthony Pepe of Queens who shot a 237 and earned $600. Third place went to Mitch Sacks ($400), Monroe, NY, with a 215. All three bowled great and could have won the title with some breaks.
The handicap final shootout consisted of 4 bowlers. David Reed, Shoreham, NY won his third LIGBT title and $1,000 by shooting a 231. Finishing second was a new LIGBT member, Keston Glasgow, Brooklyn, NY who earned $550 with a 218. Third place was taken by Doug Garrambone, Port Jefferson Station, NY who earned $450 with a 207. Finishing fourth was former LIGBT champion Alex Ware, Brooklyn, NY. Alex shot a 176 and took home $350.
The LIGBT Babylon major event paid out over $10,000 in prize money to over 50 different bowlers. The next LIGBT event is Sunday, February 13th at AMF Commack. This event tournament will feature one squad with 4-game qualifying for scratch bowlers and 3-game qualifying for handicap.
