CHRIS PAROLY SHOOTS 300 TO WIN FIRST SCRATCH TITLE

Garden City, NY:  The LIGBT visited AMF Garden City and welcomed two new bowlers to the winner’s circle. The first time scratch champion was Chris Paroly of Plainview, NY who rolled a 300 to win the title. The new handicap champion was Derek Stroke, Lawrence, NY who earned $600 with his first LIGBT trophy.
 
The scratch tournament had good scoring for both of the qualifying squads. Adam Chase lead the first squad with an 805 3-game series which seeded him directly into the final shootout. Brian Ziesig earned a $50 bonus by leading the second squad with a 757. A total of 5 bowlers advanced to the finals and the low to make the finals was 720.
 
The final shootout was quite incredible as Chris Paroly ($250) needed to shoot a perfect game to win the tournament! That’s right, Adam Chase ($200), Seaford, NY, finished second with a 280. Finishing third was Brian Ziesig ($225), Levittown, NY with a 245 and fourth place went to Frank Mazzella ($150), Staten Island, NY who rolled a 206. Senior bowler Joe Conigliaro, Valley Stream, NY also made the finals and cashed for $100.  
 
The handicap tournament once again drew over 100 entries and crowned a new champion. Michael Bernard, Copaigue, NY lead the first squad with an 820 series which got him seeded directly into the shootout. The leader of the second squad was Alan Callahan, Staten Island, NY who shot a 771 series and earned a $50 bonus.
 
The final shootout was exciting as Derek wanted his first title badly and took control early. He finished with a 285 (245 scratch) to defeat second place finisher Hee Jin Jun, Flushing , NY by 41 pins. Derek earned $600 for this victory while Hee took home $300 for the runner-up position. Finishing third and earning $250 with a 234 was David Reed, Shoreham, NY and fourth went to Michael Bernard who rolled a 206 and won $200. A total of 21 bowlers advanced to the finals and shared in a prize fund exceeding $3,400.
 
LIGBT’s next tournament is Sunday, May 1st at East Islip Lanes. This will be a 2-squad event (noon & 2pm) for scratch and handicap bowlers with money added. The guaranteed top prize for the handicap event is $1,000.
