Ray Edwards Sayville Scratch Champion

Sayville, NY:  The LIGBT headed east and visited AMF Sayville to crown two of their latest champions. The scratch title went to Ray Edwards, Middle Island, NY and the handicap title went to David Reed of Shoreham, NY. While Ray was winning his first LIGBT title David Reed won a record breaking fourth tournament.
 
The scratch event used a 5-game marathon format where the top 5 bowlers found themselves in a 1 game shootout to determine the champion. Ray Edwards bowled great throughout the match and despite a blowout 7-10 rolled a 234 to win by 23 pins over second place finisher Adam Chase of Seaford, NY. While Ray earned $800 and the champions trophy Adam won $450 as the runner up. Rounding out the top 5 was Dan Brezo, Coram NY who shot a 189 and earned $300, fourth went to Rich Ambrosino, Holtsville, NY who won $275 with a 179, and fifth place was taken by senior bowler Cary Fishman who rolled a 155 to earn $250.
 
David Reed won his record setting fourth handicap title at AMF Sayville and he really earned this victory. David needed a mark in the tenth frame to close out top seeded Preston Cheeks, Brooklyn, NY who lead the entire day with a 771 series. David earned $600 by making a spare and getting an 8 count on his fill ball to defeat Preston 231-228. Preston took home $300 while third place finisher Dexter Sapp, Valley Stream, NY earned $250 with a 206. A total of 21 bowlers advanced to the finals and shared in a $3,600 payout.
 
The LIGBT’s next tournament is Sunday, April 17th at AMF Garden City. This will be a 2-squad event (1pm & 3pm) for scratch and handicap bowlers and features an entry fee of $60 and a discounted re-entry fee of only $40.
