Champion Joe Freeman

April 1, 2012

Wantagh, NY: Joe Freeman, Ridgewood, NY won his first LIGBT title at AMF Wantagh by defeating senior bowler Sal Florindo, Queens, NY 223-217 in the final shootout. Joe earned $1,000 for his victory while Sal earned $500 for second place. Finishing third was Joette Healy, Yonkers, NY who shot a 213 and earned $300. Fourth place went to Sean Teahan, Islip, NY with a 177 worth $250. All four shootout finalists were looking for their first LIGBT title.

The scoring at AMF Wantagh was on the low side all day due to the LIGBT putting down the tough Winding Road shot by Kegel. Cut scores to make the finals were 698 in the 1pm squad and 687 in the 3pm squad. Squad leader in the first squad was Sal Florindo with a 763 handicap series and the 3pm squad leader was So Young Chin, Whitestone, NY with a 796 handicap series.

What was amazing about Joe’s victory is he did not make the finals in either squad. Joe got into the finals as a wild card entry which goes to the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist. Joe shot 680 and 667 for a 1347 series which was good enough to advance.

The final shootout was a grind all the way as the winner was not determined until the final frame. Joe needed a mark to win in the tenth frame and converted a 7 pin for the title. In the shootout no one had 3 strikes in a row as only two of the finalists threw a double in the match. A total of 30 bowlers advanced to the finals which paid out over $4,000.

The next LIGBT event is Sunday, April 22nd at AMF Commack. Top prizes are guaranteed at $1,000-1st and $500-2nd For complete results of the AMF Wantagh event please visit www.ligbtour.com. To contact the LIGBT please call 1.877.900.6464
