Garden City, NY: Tristyn Forde, a 22-year-old student from Jamaica, NY, won the LIGBT Spring Major at AMF Garden City. Tristyn won his first LIGBT title by defeating Darryl McDuffie, Floral Park, NY 251-246 to earn the $2,000 top prize. While Darryl earned $1,000 for second, finishing in third was Curtis Hetmeyer, Brooklyn, NY with a 245 worth $750. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Andre McDuffie, Floral Park, NY with 229 worth $600 and 5th place finisher Joe Scianna, Ronkonkoma, NY with a 219 worth $500.
The Spring Major final shootout was a great match as the top 3 finished within 6 pins of each other. Tristyn did not have an open frame until the tenth but missed a spare to make it close. Darryl bowled the best game of the shootout hitting the pocket 12 times but 3 stubborn 10 pins cost him the title. Curtis could have jumped to second place but he surprisingly threw a 7 count to drop to third.
The LIGBT Spring Major featured 3 different divisions; scratch, 49 & under handicap, 50 & over handicap. There were 4 qualifying squads for each event with 1 in 4 each squad cashing and 1 in 8 advancing to the finals and earning a minimum of $150. Each division had their own elimination finals with the remaining 2 from each handicap division, and the last remaining scratch bowler, combining to compete in a 1-game final shootout for the top prizes.
The LIGBT Winter Major drew a total of 212 entries (including the desperado), cashed 53 spots, and had an event payout of $11,480 (with over $1,000 added by the LIGBT.) The side action paid out an additional $11,800 bringing the total event payout to $23,280. Cut scores on the house shot ranged from a high of 734 to a low of 682.
