Norm Ginsberg Beats Record Field..

January 10, 2010

Syosset, NY:  The LIGBT, sponsored by Columbia 300, hosted its first event of 2010 and had a record crowd of 137 entries. Norm Ginsberg, East Meadow, NY won his first scratch LIGBT title bowling in his first LIGBT tournament. Norm earned $1,000 for his title. The 210 & under handicap winner was also a first time LIGBT Champion as Beverley Parker, New York City,  won her first title and the $500 top prize.
Norm Ginsberg bowled well all day on a very demanding condition. His 878 four-game series was the second highest qualifying series of the day. The squad leader was last month’s champion, Adam Chase of Seaford, NY, who rolled a 938 series and earned $700 for his second place finish. Norm also bowled well in the finals rolling games of 235, 227, and 218.

The Championship Shootout was a very close match for the first 5 frames as all three competitors were within 3 pins. The senior champion, Jim Hosier of Wayne, NY had a chance to win the event but splits in the 8th and 10th frame caused him to finish with a 185 game which earn him a third place finish and $400. Adam Chase, threw the ball well, but a couple of 10 pins sealed his second place fate. Norm stayed cleaned his last few frames which allowed him to capture the title.

The 210 and under handicap event was packed with 67 eager bowlers all looking to take home the champion’s trophy. After the 3 games of qualifying anyone who shot a 635 series, with handicap and bonus pins, advanced to the finals and cashed for a minimum of $100. Michelle Grexer of Douglaston, NY was the qualifying leader with a 680 and was automatically seeded into the final shootout.

Beverley’s path to the victory circle almost came to an end early in the finals as she was the cut score with a 197. But the close call didn’t upset her determination as she rolled a 227 and 215 games in her other final matches. In the final shootout Beverley needed a mark in the 10th frame to seal her victory. Finishing second with a 196 was Rich Walker, Brooklyn, NY who earned $350. Rounding out the top 4 was the qualifying leader Michelle Grexer who bowled a 191 and earned $250 and Anthony Colbert of the Bronx who rolled a 180 and earned $200.
