CYNTHIA COOKE WINS LIGBT TITLE AT AMF GARDEN CITY

Garden City, NY: Cynthia Cooke, Patchogue, NY won her second LIGBT title at AMF Garden City to earn the $1,000 top prize. In one of the tightest shootouts in LIGBT history all 3 finalists were within 1 pin of each other going into the 8th frame. Cynthia finished with a 242 while second and third place finishers; Tony Gee, Floral Park, NY and Rich Falco, Lindenhurst, NY tied with 233’s earning them both $400.

The final shootout was close the entire match. Rich bowled the tenth frame first and struck out to shoot 233. Tony was next and he filled 19 pins in the final frame to also finish with a 233. Cynthia was last to bowl knowing she needed a mark to win the title. She left a 7 pin on her first ball and when she converted the spare she became the latest LIGBT champion.

The AMF Garden City tournament attracted a great crowd of 99 entries. The scoring was moderate as Kegel’s 43 foot Dead Man’s Curve pattern was used. Cut scores to the finals were 699 in the 1pm squad and 720 in the 3pm squad. The finals paid out $3,600 to 21 finalists.

LIGBT’s next tournament is Sunday, January 20th at South Levittown Lanes. This will be a handicap singles 2 squad event (1pm & 3pm). Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500 and 1 in 5 bowlers each squad will advance to the finals.
