MAX MACIAS WINS RECORD ASTORIA EVENT

Astoria, NY:  Max Macias, a 32 year old cable technician from Clifton, NJ, won his first LIGBT title by defeating Mike Karr, Brooklyn, NY, 275-263 at Astoria Bowl. Max earned $1,000 for his victory while Mike earned $550 for second. Rounding out the top 6 was third place finisher Jack Chan, New York, NY with a 239 worth $400, fourth went to Josh Hernandez, Woodside, NY with a 228 worth $300, fifth was taken by Damian Walsh, Mastic, NY with a 227 worth $275 and sixth went to Pak Wong, New York, NY with a 197 earning him $250.

The 6 person shootout was well bowled but by the end it was a 2 person competition between Max and Mike. Both bowlers were the only 2 competitors to throw a clean game in the shootout. Mike bowled the better game but could never overcome the 51 pin handicap advantage Max started with. While Mike threw a 5-timer his last 5 frames Max kept filling frames to earn his first title.   

The Astoria event drew a record house shot tournament crowd of 142 entries (including 15 new members), and paid out $6,075 to 35 different bowlers. The house shot pattern created senior cut scores of; 746 & 743 and 49 & under cut scores of 778 & 769. High series of the tournament was shot by Pak Wong with an 871 in the first squad. Juan Ramos was the winner of the bowling ball raffle and took home a Brunswick Kingpin.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a 2-day special event at Herrill Lanes April 20 & 22. The top 2 prizes are guaranteed to pay $2,000 & $1,000 with 1 in 6 each squad advancing to the finals and earning a minimum of $100.
