Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its end-of-season House Shot Championship at AMF E. Meadow. Eddie Walker, Washington DC won the prestigious title worth $2,500 by defeating fellow senior bowler Vito Genova Sr., Franklin Square, NY, 270-264 in the final shootout. While Vito earned $1,500 for 2nd place, finishing in third was the scratch champion Joe Scianna, Long Island, NY with a 258 earning $1,000. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Jason Epps, Jamaica, NY with a 223 worth $800 and 5th place finisher Tyger Folmar, Long Island, NY, with a 206 worth $600.
Eddie’s first LIGBT title, at the age of 75, was due to his consistency. Eddie qualified for the finals by earning the senior wildcard bonus with a 1413 six-game series. In the final shootout Ed never had an open frame while Vito, who threw 10 strikes out of 12 frames, had 2 opens which cost him the title. Joe Scianna also threw a clean game but since he was representing the scratch division, he received no handicap which made it a big challenge to win the title. Jason and Tyger bowled well but couldn’t string enough strikes to put pressure on the champion.
The house shot produced good scoring all weekend. Cut scores to cash were 692-729 in the scratch division, 672-731 in the 49 & under handicap division, and 684-732 in the handicap senior division. High handicap series of the tournament was shot by Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY with a 797. The wildcard winners were; Ed Walker (1413), Josh Arrington, Springfield Gardens, NY (1396), Carolyn Willis, Bethpage, NY (1469), Mitch Benov, Seaford, NY (1422), Nas Freeman, Cambria Heights, NY (1387), and Joe Scianna (1434.)
The House Shot Championship also ran a “FREE BONUS TOURNAMENT” for bowlers competing in 8 or more House Shot Series events in Season 15. The winner of the bonus tournament was Maniram Basdeo with a 797 earning $1,000. Finishing in 2nd place was Ryon Lee, Holbrook, NY with a 775 worth $500. Finishing in third place was Max Thomas with 755 worth $250. A total of 10 bowlers cashed (724 was the cashing cut) in the $2,580 bonus prize fund.
The LIGBT Sport Shot Championship drew 228 entries, paid out $17,980 in prize money, and had 73 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $6,490 bringing the total event payout to $24,470.
The House Shot Championship was the final event of LIGBT Season 15. Season 16 kicks off with a sport shot tournament on Sunday, October 15th at AMF Garden City.
