Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 2-day special House Shot Series event called The Firecracker Classic. Steve Chiarella, Staten Island, NY won his first LIGBT title (he joined the Club in 2012) in historic fashion. Steve bowled in both the scratch and senior handicap divisions and advanced in both divisions to the final shootout. Amazingly, his 219-scratch game and 234-handicap game were good enough to finish in first and second place earning a total of $3,000!

To win his first title Steve had to come from way behind. In fact, halfway through the match Steve trailed the leader by 56 pins! Knowing he needed to do something drastic, Steve changed his line to the pocket and finished the last 5 frames with 4 straight strikes and a spare giving him an amazing come-from-behind victory. Finishing in third place was Utrice Coleman, Deer Park, NY with a 203 worth $700. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Nick Falsetta, N. Babylon, NY with a 202 worth $500 and 5th place finisher Tom Catalano, N. Babylon, NY with a 187 worth $400.

The LIGBT Firecracker Classic was a big success with 217 entries (4 qualifying squads) generating an $11,360 prize fund. A total of 61 bowlers went to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $7,160 bringing the total event payout to $18,520.

Scores to cash on the recreational pattern “Wall Street” varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 651-803. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 669 to 806. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 632-685. Tom Catalano shot the high series of the weekend with an 806 handicap (803 scratch) on Friday evening. There were no 300’s shot at this event.
