JOE CERUZZI SWEEPS BOTH SCRATCH & HANDICAP AT NEW YEAR’S DAY SPECTACULAR

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT kicked off 2024 with a special 4-game house shot event. Joe Ceruzzi, Rye Brook, NY, dominated both events and earned over $1,850 in prize money. Joe won the handicap tournament by defeating Carrie Tudy, Jamaica, NY 255-232 in the final shootout. Joe earned $1,000 while Carrie took home $500. Joe also won the scratch event with a 4-game total of 1051 (262 average) worth $600. Our champion also won 2 pots adding another $250 to his winnings for a total of $1,850.

The handicap event finished with a 4-person shootout. Joe was getting no handicap and started the match 40 pins behind Carrie. But when Joe threw six strikes in a row starting in the 2nd frame, the handicap difference became irrelevant, and Joe went on to a comfortable 23-pin victory. Finishing in third with a 226 was Don Pendleton, Staten Island, NY with a 226 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Ron Hatchett, New York, NY with a 210 worth $250.

The handicap entry fee included 8 additional high game pot prizes. Earning $150 for the high handicap game were Quan Jacob (299), Joe Ceruzzi (289) and Ron Hatchett (300.) Stephanie Pidala won the 4th game pot with a 276 worth an amazing $500! Second place pot winners ($100 each) were Brian Beal (287), Jadon Pineda (289), and Kelvin Leung (284.) Larry Berry earned $250 as the 2nd place winner of the 4th game pot with a 272. 

Joe’s 1051 scratch series gave him an incredible 70-pin victory in the scratch event. Finishing in 2nd place was Quan Jacob, Bronx, NY with a 981 worth $300. Rounding out the top 3 was Rich Palumbo, Levittown, NY with a 961 worth $220. The scratch event attracted 39 entries and paid out $1,820 to 8 different cashers. An additional four $100 high-game pots were paid out to Quan Jacob (299), Joe Ceruzzi (289), Ron Hatchett (300), and Nas Freeman (279.)   

LIGBT’s NYD Spectacular drew a wonderful field of 122 entries, paid out $7,365 in prize money, and had 36 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $4,190 bringing the total day’s payout to $11,555. Scores to cash were 943 in the 49 & under handicap division, 930 in the senior handicap division, and 940 in the scratch event.

The LIGBT ran a special raffle and gave out over $700 in gifts. Winners of a Brunswick ball were Scott Teitler and Carrie Tudy. Winners of a Turbo Triple tote were Don Pendleton and Ron Hatchett.
