E. Meadow, NY:  LIGBT’s Season 17 kicked off on Sunday at AMF E. Meadow with Sport Shot Series #1. Andrew Mienkiewicz won his 9th LIGBT title by defeating 17-year-old Jason Lam, Oakland Gardens, NY 258-231. Andrew earned the $1,000 top prize while Jason earned a $500 SMART scholarship for second place. Finishing in third was Mack Oakman, Melville, NY shooting a 196 worth $300. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Devon Johnson, Brooklyn, NY with a 183 worth $250 and 5th place finisher Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY with a 141 worth $200.

The lane pattern for sport shot #1 was the PBA Cheetah pattern. It surprisingly played very tough as scores were low all day. But Andrew, who shot a 492-scratch series in the first squad, found the line after he re-entered and made the finals with a 672-handicap series.

The final shootout was a 2-man race from the start. Jason started strong with a double but didn’t strike again until the 10th frame. Andrew missed a 1-pin spare in the 2nd frame but that seemed to ignite him and he threw a 4-timer to grab the lead over Jason in the 6th frame. Andrew secured the title with another late triple locking up his 9th title. Mack bowled well but had 3 opens in the middle of the game and settled for third place. Devon had 2 splits and couldn’t string strikes together. Darcy, one of the most consistent members of the club, had a rare bad game with 7 opens (5 were splits) and he never threw a strike.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 59 entries, paid out $3,145 in prize money, and had 15 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $1,295 bringing the total event payout to $4,440.

Scores to cash on the Cheetah pattern were 617 at noon and 636 at 2pm. The wildcard winner was Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY with a 1,242 six-game series. High series of the day was shot by 4rd place finisher Devon Johnson with a 702 series in the 2pm squad.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a handicap doubles tournament at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, October 27th (noon start.) To view the results of the AMF E.
