E. Meadow, NY: Rob Miller, a 50-year-old owner of a pool company from Manorville, NY, won his 2nd LIGBT title at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday. Rob defeated 2nd place finisher Mack Oakman Jr., Melville, NY 283-233 in the final shootout. Rob earned $1,000 for his title while Mack took home $500 for his runner-up position. Finishing in 3rd was Jayson Holley, Rosedale, NY with a 214 worth $450. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Johnny Calhoun, Brooklyn, NY with a 212 worth $400 and 5th place finisher Steve Rivera, Bay Shore, NY with a 207 worth $350.
The final shootout was dominated early by Rob who started the match with 5 strikes in his first 6 frames. Rob threw the only clean game in the shootout which allowed him to coast to victory. Mack bowled well but when he missed a 1-pin spare in the 8th frame it dashed his title hopes. The battle at the end of the shootout was for the last 3 spots. Jayson, who was getting the most handicap, hung on to secure 3rd with a nice split conversion in the 10th frame. Johnny doubled in the 10th frame to secure 4th place. Steve bowled well but his 2 doubles could not overcome his 4 open frames and settled for 5th place.
The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a wonderful crowd of 130 entries, paid out $6,240 in prize money, and had 33 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $4,820 bringing the total event payout to $11,060.
Scores to cash on the “PBA Chameleon” pattern were 640 at noon and 646 at 2pm. The wildcard winner was Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY with a 1,308 six-game series. High series of the day was shot by Gregory Welch, Brooklyn, NY with a 750 series in the noon squad. Three women made the finals; Jenna Lehrer, Commack, NY, Kyra Walter, W. Babylon, NY and Leslie Farrell, Flushing, NY. Youth bowlers earned $475 in SMART scholarships at E. Meadow (Kyra Walters & Gavin Cremers.) A total of 7 super seniors (65+) advanced to the finals and earned at least $150.
